Hi Everyone :)

I am planning to apply to ISB this year and wanted some help for profile evaluation:

Life story in short: Engineer turned Digital Marketer who's passionate about marketing/brands & solving complex business problems, want to pursue an MBA from ISB to get a hollistic understanding of different business functions & propel my career into core consulting to solve more challenging business problems beyond just digital marketing.

Acads:

10th - 9.8 CGPA (90.8%) (CBSE)
12th - 79% (CBSE)
Undergrad - 7.35 (82%) - Engineering from SRMIST
GRE - 317

Work-ex: (Total 5+ years)

10 months - GREedge (ed-tech startup, worked there as digital marketing executive)
2.5 years - Dentsu (senior business analyst, worked for paid/organic digital marketing for various clients such as STL, IDFC, Extramarks, Croma etc., took 1 promotion & received 2 awards)
2 years - Boston Consulting Group (Senior Knowledge Analyst) (took 1 promotion, multiple accolades from team members, top performer in the team)

Aspiration: Move to management consulting/product marketing role
Why only ISB? - Want to stay in India & work for growing age start-ups. Have close seniors who are alums & can see the intensity & impact they bring to each project.

Any further tips on my essay strategies will also be great! I'm already preparing for my second shot at GRE. Aiming for the first round itself.
Hey! Your work experience is pretty good and your acads are decent too. Focus more on your Dentsu and BCG experience in your application essays. You should build stories around your leadership experience or if you took initiatives that made a significant impact on the organization or how your marketing campaigns helped your customers with conversions, lead gen or other marketing initiatives. In essay 1 you will have to add a bit of personal element, so think of some extracurriculars that you can use to build a storyline and showcase how these activities shaped you as an individual.

While your aspiration is good, you will have to pick 1 between management consulting or product marketing coz there is starc difference between the two :)
You will then have to highlight how your past experience and ISB/MBA help you in achieving that goal. This is one of the major deal-breakers and this is where a lot of aspirants miss on the admits, so be clear and crisp about your goals and how you plan to achieve them.

We have 40+ mentors from ISB on our platform IvyCrackers and few of them are on ISB admissions interview panel. You can book a complimentary 30-mins call with us and one of the interview panelists will evaluate your profile in detail. In this call, we will delve deep into your profile, help you build an overall strategy for your ISB application, and answer any questions you have about ISB.

Hello sachin97singhania,

Hope this finds you well.

Your chances will largely depend on whether you are able to improve your GRE score as well as on how compelling your essays sound; the career goals definitely need to be more focused; at the moment, you are talking about two different things so you need to align yourself with one and that will need a certain amount of deliberation.

At the moment, your entire focus should be on the GRE; once that is out of the way, please focus on putting forth a well-rounded application.

Hope this helps.

All the best!

Dear sachin97singhania,

We want to begin by highlighting the strengths that stand out in your profile. Your experience as a digital marketing executive with clients spanning across industries such as banking, ed-tech, and retail outlets demonstrates your capacity to adapt and address differing user needs. This quality is highly valued by consulting firms, making it a realistic transition for you should you choose to pursue it. Additionally, this makes you an ideal candidate for product marketing roles.

An area for improvement, as you have identified, is your GRE score. Currently, it is below the median scores of aspirants admitted to ISB through GRE scores. An ideal score for your profile would be at least 10 points higher.

To sum it up, with a higher GRE score and strong, well-thought-out admission essays, we believe you have a strong chance at securing an interview invite. We are genuinely eager to learn more about your profile and assist you comprehensively throughout the application journey—from refining your essays to providing guidance on letters of recommendation and preparing for admission interviews.

At Team FLY, we are a collective of ISB alumni dedicated to supporting prospective ISB candidates with profile positioning, essay critiques, and interview preparations.

Please feel free to book a 15-minute free session for a detailed discussion with us: Book a Session

With warm regards,
Team FLY

sachin97singhania - The BCG brand and motivation for consulting are good angles. Would like to understand more details such as your roles (i.e. key achievements/ skillsets), involvement in extracurriculars, etc. Aim to have a strong narrative indicating your experiences, transferable skills, how/ why an MBA (and particularly ISB) fits in.

The GRE score could certainly use some improvement, a 327+ would be ideal, given the competitive pool at ISB.

For my insights and tips on ISB's essays, check out here.

Hope this helps some.
