Hello Gmatclub,
My first post here. I really appreciate the time taken by the members here to answer queries. To be honest, I have a mixed feeling while writing my applications and selecting schools.
I scored 690 in GMAT (86 %ile)
Q - 49 (75)
V - 35 (76)
IR - 7 (82)
AWA - Awaited
I am looking at a finance related MBA course - Finance, Corporate Finance, Markets
Stretch schools - Stern, Colombia, Booth
Target schools - UCLA Anderson, Ross, Duke
Safe Schools - UNC KF, USC Marshall
I have a Computer Science degree from an IIT. (73% in undergrad)
No of years of experience when I intend to join an MBA program in 2018 - 5 years
2.5 years in a software engineer role in a US FinTech giant. Switched my role to a data strategist in MIS in one of the giant banks. During last 2 years, I made several short business trips to US and UK, do they count much as international exposure?
Besides that, I have have several achievements to show, such as international conferences and awards.
I also have enough volunteer experience with a well known US organization and otherwise.
Also I am preparing for CFA Level 2 in June 18.
I am also planning to write GMAT again while preparing for R2 applications as I feel I could have done better in my verbal.
Based on all this, does this strategy and goals make sense?
Thanks for anyone who responds in advance.
Well dude,
I would love to hear more about what you have actually done, how you have advanced, what leadership you have (if any) and what your greatest achievements were, as that would help me understand where you stand as much as anything else.
For now, what I can say is:
- Retake the GMAT. Your school list will be way too hard with your current GMAT. And if you feel like you could have done better you really should. Also, since it is October and you don't have a high enough GMAT for your target schools, it means you will have till next July to get that GMAT in the bag. Don't rush things dude. You will only do this once, so do it right!
- Your business trips are great and DO count as international experience! Great!
Other than that if you have any other questions, let me know!
Best,
JF
