Hey! You’ve got a strong, finance-heavy profile, but it’s easier to give precise advice once you confirm whether your priority is MiM or MSc Finance, and what GMAT score you’re realistically aiming for
Based on what you shared:
–-> MiM programs at ESSEC, ESCP, Imperial, Bocconi, and even LBS are very realistic with a 650–700 GMAT(provided the other aspects of the applications are evenly balanced too)
–-> HEC MiM is possible but not guaranteed in that range...it really depends on nationality, competition in your round, and how strong the rest of your application looks
–-> For top MSc Finance programs, 650–700 is on the lower edge. HEC/LSE/LBS usually prefer 700+ with a high quant score. Extra quantitative coursework only helps if you want the MSc Finance route
–-> IELTS 7.5 is perfectly fine
If your main goal is PE, I’d personally recommend applying to a mix of:
--> MiM (HEC, LBS, ESSEC, ESCP, Imperial) as broader, easier to enter, and still excellent for finance
--> MSc Finance as reach options (HEC, LBS, Imperial, Bocconi)
This way you keep strong chances while still shooting for the top finance programs

Hi everyone,
I’m a French student finishing the EDHEC International BBA (Corporate & Investment Banking track), and I’d really appreciate a profile evaluation for top EU Master’s programs (MSc Finance / MiM).
Academically, I have an overall average of around
14.2/20, which corresponds roughly to a
UK 2:1 or about
3.4 on the GPA scale. I also completed an exchange semester in South Korea. I’m targeting a
GMAT score between 650 and 700, and for English I aim for an
IELTS of at least 7.5 (possibly 8.0).
In terms of experience, I’ve worked in
M&A (6 months),
private equity coverage (6 months), and
wealth management, and I also launched a
small consulting activity on the side . Overall, most of my background is finance-oriented, with a mix of analytical, project-based, and entrepreneurial exposure. I also have some extracurricular leadership experience through student and volunteer roles.
I’m mainly interested in applying to European programs, especially
HEC, ESSEC, ESCP, Imperial, LBS, LSE, Bocconi, and St. Gallen. My goal is to strengthen my academic profile with a well-recognized second degree and to keep doors open for careers in private equity.
I would really appreciate feedback on a few points:
– With my academic profile, do I have a realistic chance at the top MSc Finance programs (HEC/ESSEC/Imperial/LBS/Bocconi)?
– Would MiM programs be more attainable, or is the MSc Finance track still possible with a 650–700 GMAT?
– For more quantitative programs, should I prepare additional math coursework or certifications?
– Is an IELTS 7.5 sufficient for these schools?
– Based on my background and goals, would you recommend pursuing a MiM or an MSc Finance?
Thanks a lot for your time, any honest feedback would be very helpful.
