Hello,

Thank you in advance for reviewing my profile and for providing me feedback on my chances to get into a top-MBA program. Please find my complete details below.

- 34 yr. Old Indian Male
- PhD in Chemical Engineering, significant experience in large research facilities in the United States
- Five years of experience in Industry focused on developing analytical methods, new technical products in materials science, and commercialization.
- Contributed to the launch of three new products to automotive market
- Aspire to lead a technology-focused global organization focused on commercializing game-changing new materials/technologies.

Co-curricular:
Participated, conducted, and organized a number of technical conferences in India, United States, and Germany.
Awards for research in the United States
Member of Advisory Board on review panels focused on research in academia and laboratories
A few papers in leading scientific journals, five patents, two products on market

Extra-curricular:
Contributed to building a school & championed education of under-privileged children from my ancestral village in India.
Mentored a handful of graduate students in US
Coached middle-school children from my neighborhood to compete in a MA state-level science competition

You do have impressive credential -- however, most of your peer group also has impressive credentials so distinguishing yourself amongst this group is the trick to you being admitted to the top programs that you are targeting. The only red flag I would have is your age -- and at certain of the programs you are targeting, there is age bias in the admissions process -- so you might want to reconsider not applying and putting your energies into schools where age is not a factor.

Also, as with most older candidates, you have to clear sense of your career goals as well as compelling reasons for investing in an MBA degree. Lastly, it is expected that more mature candidates will perform extremely well on the interview so you have to be very well prepared.

If you do invest the time, energy and resources into your application, I see no reason why you should not be admitted to multiple programs.

Hi,

Thanks for the feedback. While I took the same approach while applying for the MBA programs, two dings one each from HBS and Columbia has shaken my confidence.

At this stage, I am trying to figure out what may be wrong. I have applied in R2 for both schools so I don't know if applying in R1 will improve my chances next year. Any comments/suggestions are welcome.

I think Wharton, Kellogg, Sloan and Booth are older applicant friendly State-side as well as with pretty much every European programme except for IESE. You might want to take a look at Kellogg 1Y or INSEAD, they could be a nice balance for you. Harvard and Columbia are reputed to be among the least older applicant friendly, so I wouldn't read too much into their dings.
