Hello experts!
Please find my profile summary below; would really appreciate if you could help cite some well fitting schools. I am looking to go for a full-time MBA program.
GMAT score: 740
Bio: 25 years old, Indian male. Looking to join the Aug 2023 session of MBA (with 4+ years of work ex)
Education:
High School CGPA: 10 (indicates that the score was in the range of 90-100%).
Undergraduate CGPA: 7.37 CGPA (translating to 3.14 on the 4-pt scale)
UG degree: B.E. (Hons.) in Mechanical Engineering from BITS Pilani (a Tier 1 college in India)
Work Experience:
During UG:
- 2 months internship at JSW steel (one of the biggest steel manufacturers in the country)
- 6 months internship at Tata Autocomp (received an LOR)
After UG:
- 2.5 years with an e-commerce giant in the country. Worked as a Key Account Manager for FMCG behemoths like HUL, ITC, J&J and Marico (Business development role). In the last 6 mths, was part of the central app merchandising team (marketing based role).
- currently 6 months in with the biggest quick commerce start-up in India. Working as a manager in the growth team; solving for user acquisition and retention.
Broad reasons for MBA: accelerated career growth and the opportunity to switch geographies; will give me a chance to grow in an entirely new environment and absorb businesses and cultures other than my own. I also realize that I can do a lot better on my strategic thinking and people handling, and while work experience will help me hone these skills over time, a top-notch MBA will help me speed this process up and help me surpass what I would achieve otherwise.
Reason for low marks in UG: I was heavily involved in extra-curriculars. I was the President of the Mechanical Association of the college, vice caption of the basketball team and also the vice caption of the team that designed and built an all-terrain vehicle for a national-level competition.
Post MBA outlook: As of now, I am not very inclined towards technology and finance centric roles post-MBA, so I would be looking to research schools that have a strong foundation in strategy, case studies, team projects and leadership to name a few core principles.
Location preferences: UK and USA.

As for explaining your undergrad grades, do consider explaining the circumstances in the optional essay. Over-committing to extracurriculars is common, so it's fine to be candid in your optional essay.
Given the criteria that are important to you in schools (strong foundation in strategy, case studies, team projects and leadership), most of the top US and UK business programs will offer you that. Specific US schools that are stronger in tech and finance include: Wharton, Columbia, Booth, MIT Sloan. In the UK, I recommend looking into LBS and Oxford. INSEAD is also a great option, albeit not located in the UK.
