Dear Jon,

I'm very grateful to you for your great support. Now I feel a bit more confident about my chances :)

I'm still worried about my GPA (not so bad, but not nearly as good as the GMAT). On top of that, I dont have much international experience.

And yes, you are right. The cost of an MBA, which is no less than $100.000, is something beyond my tolerance. You look at the average income of Vietnamese, you will figure it out (No matter how fancy my job sounds!). I'm not sure how an international student can get a loan in the US (I'm sure I'm not able to borrow that amount of money from Vietnamese Banks) to pursue an MBA. From a credit officer's perspective, it's such a risky loan that I'll never approve:)) . Therefore, scholarship is a must have, though it is gonna narrow down my choice to the low tiers.

Anyway, can you tell which bschools from top 20 are likely the most generous to international students? I'll give them my best shot :)

Thanks a tons!

Hey there,
Great to hear from you back. so listen: I know that paying 70-100K a year for tuition seems totally crazy. But if your objective is to stay in the US, you will get a job that will allow you to pay that off pretty quickly (average is about 5 years!!!) And really look at the salary statistics coming out of MBA programs - basically the better program you get into, the more money you make (plus the better chance you have of entering a great firm). So my advice to you is to still apply to Top 10 programs. You DO however need programs where you can have a co-signer for the loan, or where they offer loans without a cosigner. You can ALSO apply to Top 20 schools, and it is possible that you will get scholarship at some of them.

As far as which school offers more or better scholarships - there is none. All schools have money for scholarships. The more they want you there (meaning because your profile is good and your essays are awesome) the more money you will be offered. I've never seen anything that allows me to predict what money a candidate will get offered.

But one thing you can do is make the school understand how limited your salary is in your essay, and it might motivate them to give you money.

I hope this helps!!!

And drop a line if you need anything else,
Best,
Jon

Do you think "led a team to win a second place in an Age of Empires contest" is worth mentioned? Do the adcoms consider indoor activities like "strategic video games" negative?

Haha! Good question! I dont know. I mean, personally, having loved Age of Empires, I find it pretty awesome :)

Bottom line: yeah it's cool. But let's not forget its B-school. So unless your goal is to go into the video game business, a brief mention will suffice.
