Hi,
Could you please evaluate my profile?
Vietnamese, Male, 1989 (27 years old)
GMAT 760 (Q50, V44)
Undergraduate: top Vietnam business university, major: banking and finance, graduated with a "normal" (Ok, it's a little bit low) GPA (7.86/10.00) in 2011
Work experience: 5 years in commercial banking (will be 6 at matriculation next year): more of a "risk/policy/back" guy than a "front" guy.
- The first 2 and a half years: Worked as a credit admin officer and then a corporate loan officer in a small branch of Vietcombank (the 4th biggest commercial Bank in Vietnam).
+ In charge of 18 corporate clients, total loan volume granted to which is USD5.6mn, accounted for nearly 20% of the branch’s total loan volume. The portfolio grew 13% in one year, no new non-performing loan arose.
+ Consulted the branch’s manager about Vietcombank’s credit policies and internal fund transfer pricing (FTP). Increased the branch’s profits in 2013 by 2% by utilizing the FTP policies.
+ Wrote the branch restructure proposal, partly contributing to the branch’s 15% growth in both loans and deposits in 2013.
+ Employee of the Year (2013). The only non-managerial employee and the youngest in branch received this award.
- The 2 subsequent years: Worked as a credit policy specialist in the Head Office of Vietcombank (Though not considered a "real promotion", it is actually a huge advance in my career from personal perspective).
+ In charge of collateral management policy team (3-member). Researched, developed and issued the new collateral management policy (the most important document of Vietcombank in collateral management), the detailed guideline and procedure on evaluating, taking and managing collaterals, and 7 other official documents to clarify the policy, guideline and procedure. These documents affect a collateral portfolio of more than USDxxbn.
+ Trained more than 2000 loan officers on collateral policies.
+ Collaborated with Legal Department and YKVN, one of the biggest law firms in Vietnam, to design secured transaction contracts (xx different contract templates in two years).
+ Assisted the Risk Management Committee of the Board of Directors with revising credit granting proposals whose value are no less than USDxxxmn each (xx proposals in one year, total credit volume being more than USDx.xbn)
+ Received CEO’s certificate of merit for Excellent Service and Outstanding Contribution (2015). Awarded to the top x% per Department.
- From Apr 2016 to now: Work as a credit risk management associate in the Head Office of Vietinbank (the 3rd biggest bank in Vietnam).
+ In charge of the Project on improving the collateral management system (research grant: USDxx,xxx), targeting to establish a new department/centre specialized on collateral management.
+ Reserched, developed and issued the new Credit Risk Management Framework (the most important document of Vietinbank in credit risk management), revised the Delegation and Approval Limits Policy.
+ Responsible for monitoring credit portfolios in fertilizer and freight transportation industries, the combined volume of which is USDx.xbn, accounted for x% of the bank’s total credit portfolio volume. Issued two annual reports on Vietnam fertilizer and freight transportation industries.
I need an MBA in finance, better with a focus on risk management (but it is not necessary) to get promoted to vice president of the collateral management department/center of Vietinbank (which is likely to be established in the next 2-3 years, as a result of the project we are running) or vice president of my current department in Vietinbank. On top of that, I want to get international perspectives on risk management in multiple aspects of finance and banking, as my long term goal is to become the Chief Risk Officer of a top commercial bank in Vietnam.
