Profile evaluation for ISB.
10th- 90%
12th – 84%
Btech- 77% (Tier I)
GMAT FE- 745
Work Experience:
2 years in Private Oil and Gas company
Core technical role
~7 years in Government Oil and Gas company (Currently working)
Field Operations: Managed a team of 20, overseeing daily data acquisition and consistently exceeding targets.
Project Work: Led initiatives to revive old non flowing wells enhancing oil recovery. Automating several daily tasks, significantly improving efficiency and resource management.
Work Achievements:
Received group awards for work excellence.
National runner-up and regional winner in company-wide managerial games.

Extra Curricular Activities:
Organized Cleanliness drive, Inter departmental Sports within the company.
Volunteered teaching underprivileged school children during undergraduate studies.
Taught Mathematics to Class 12 students from underprivileged backgrounds, aiding their admission to Tier II B.Tech colleges.

Need genuine review and feedback on chances for admission in ISB.
Also I am looking out for consultants who can assist in my applications.
I would have liked to know your exact college and your branch.

Do I get it correct that you have 9 years of work experience?

GMAT score is obviously exceptional, but you have not mentioned anything about your post-MBA goals. That needs some brainstorming, since yours has largely been a purely technical profile.

Ashish.
Hi, Really appreciate your response.
I graduated in Petroleum Engineering from ISM Dhanbad (Now IIT (ISM) Dhanbad).
Yes total 9 years of experience.
Regarding post MBA goals, frankly speaking primarily I am facing job stagnation. I want to move on to more challenging leadership roles (if that makes sense).

When you went to IIT-ISM, didn't everyone tell you that your life is all set ashish2023_ ;)

Job stagnation, greater salary, greener pastures do not work for a professional goal; "challenging leadership role" comes across as too generic. Please put some thought into it.

ashish2023_ - Adding to the above points:

1. One of the challenges you may (likely) face is in showcasing the impact of your work. For example "Automating several daily tasks, significantly improving efficiency and resource management" isn't strong. Some angles to strengthen it: (A) by what % did efficiency improve (acc. to which metrics, in what timeframe), (B) which daily tasks did you automate, (C) what was the end business impact, etc. Remember, the devil is in the detail. Details are key to communicate your business-impact both in CV and essays/ interviews.

2. It's crucial to have a strong narrative linking your work-ex, skill-sets picked up, post-MBA goals (i.e. target sector/ function/ geography), and how an MBA (and particularly ISB) fits in. Don't underestimate ISB's optional essay, as this angle is also important for interviews.

3. Some guidelines and best-practices on how to approach ISB's latest essays are here

Hope this helps some.

Arvind

Honestly, any profile evaluation looks very pre-mature in the absence of a GMAT score Divye.

Yours seems to be a largely Operations profile; you clearly do not seem to have pursued law as a profession. Also, you already have a MBA and so, you need to put some justification around the need for a second MBA.

Finally, I don't get any sense of your post-ISB goals. In any case, all these things can wait.

GMAT needs to be your topmost priority for now. See if you can get a 645+.

All the best DivyeGupta59.

Hey! Your GMAT and acads are pretty good and your GMAT will certainly make your profile standout. Since you have a work experience of 9+ years (which is a bit higher in comparison to ISB's average work experience), you will have to showcase a lot of value in your essays and highlight about your leadership/other key initiatives. You need to demonstrate that you will be bringing immense value to the class through your work experience.

We have 40+ mentors from ISB on our platform IvyCrackers and few of them are on ISB admissions interview panel. You can book a complimentary 30-mins call with us and one of the interview panelists will evaluate your profile in detail. In this call, we will delve deep into your profile, help you build an overall strategy for your ISB application, and answer any questions you have about ISB.

Dear ashish2023_,

On first glance, your profile checks many of the right boxes for what ISB looks for in a potential candidate. Good academics, core operations-based work experience in a niche industry with impressive career progression—from a core technical role to a managerial role—strengthen your profile significantly. Not many applicants have had the exposure to leading big teams prior to ISB, and this is a standout aspect of your experience. Additionally, your stellar GMAT score and decent extracurriculars provide a solid foundation for your application.

With the Round One application deadline approaching, now is the perfect time to start crafting your story. A clear articulation of your short-term and long-term goals, and how you believe the ISB PGP can help you achieve them, will be crucial. We are eager to discuss and brainstorm with you on how to most effectively present your profile and how ISB can support your aspirations.

At Team FLY, we are a collective of ISB alumni dedicated to supporting prospective ISB candidates with profile positioning, essay critiques, and interview preparations.

Please feel free to book a 15-minute free session for a detailed discussion with us: https://calendly.com/reachusfly/15min

With warm regards,
Team FLY
LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/reachusfly/

We look forward to helping you on this exciting journey and are confident that with the right strategy, your application will stand out.

Hello ashish2023_

Your profile presents a solid academic and professional foundation; however, there are some areas you should focus on.
  1. Academic Performance: While your 10th (90%) and 12th (84%) scores are decent, your undergraduate CGPA of 77% is relatively low for a Tier I institution. High GMAT score compensates it to some extent but try to highlight upward trend in your academic journey.
  2. Work Experience: Although you have substantial work experience in the oil and gas sector, a significant portion of it (7 years) is in a government company. This may raise concerns about the diversity and dynamism of your work environment. Emphasize any cross-functional projects, international exposure, or unique challenges you’ve tackled to showcase versatility. This is especially true if your post MBA career goal is to join Strategy Consulting / Product Management. Potentially you can talk about how your exp. With PSUs in India makes you well suited to handle B2G clients as a Consultant.
  3. Leadership and Impact: Your experience managing a team of 20 and leading projects to enhance oil recovery is noteworthy, but ensure you provide specific, quantifiable outcomes. For example, mention the percentage increase in oil recovery or the reduction in operational costs due to your initiatives.
  4. Awards and Recognitions: Receiving group awards and winning managerial games is commendable, but these achievements may seem internal and not widely recognized outside your company. Highlight any industry-wide recognitions or certifications to add more weight to your professional accomplishments.
  5. Extracurricular Activities: While organizing cleanliness drives and sports events within your company demonstrates initiative, these activities might not stand out. Highlight your teaching and volunteering experiences more, particularly any measurable impact you made, such as the number of students you helped get admitted to colleges or improvements in their academic performance.
By addressing these areas and providing detailed, quantifiable examples of your achievements, you can present a more compelling and well-rounded application to ISB. Further, focus on how you will add value to the cohort in terms of P2P learning at the back of your personal and professional skillsets, rather than highlighting grades and achievements.

I am an ISB alum,CO15, and have been mentoring applicants for 7+ years now succesfully get into ISB and other global programs. Feel free to reach out if you seek professional guidance.

Cheers and All the Best !!
