Professional experience:
Certainly unique, but I'm unsure if it is appealing to adcoms.
I work for a small manufacturer of specialty chemical additives for the coatings, adhesives, and composites industry. I began as a developmental chemist in the R&D lab. After about 1 year, I was promoted to a technical sales representative role, and given a new territory to develop. This is a business to business sales role in which I interact with other small businesses as well as many of the top 10 paint and coatings manufacturers, several tier 1 & 2 automotive suppliers. I have been able to generate a pipeline of new opportunities in both new and existing markets. Working for my current employer has allowed by to have a high level of autonomy and a number of unique experiences. Do adcoms find this type of experience desirable?
In total, I will have 63 months of work experience at the time of matriculation in the fall of 2019.
Extracurricular:
Involvement in several professional networking organizations in the composites, coatings and adhesives industries. I am also involved in my local church, running clubs, and multiple casual soccer leagues.
Target Schools:
In order of preference: Vanderbilt Owen, Carnegie Mellon Tepper, Emory Goizueta, UNC Kenan-Flagler
I would like to focus on business development strategy, product management, and entrepreneurship.
Is my GPA going to cripple my application? Is business to business sales success favorable for applying?
