Thanks Hatakekakashi for reply.

Yes i am after one year MBA. Thinking of taking a break rather than doing it in a weekend or modular format.

Re motivation, I want to work as a global executive in Finance or Strategy.

My current job is Project Manager with a mining company. I believe getting a MBA degree will help me catapulting to area i want my career to develop in future.

I also exploring the option of Executive Assessment. It is accepted by many schools, not as extensive as GMAT.
but hard to find any references or people who have completed it.

I have always liked Europe to settle down but US isn't bad too as i have family members there.

I will be speaking to my company for sabbatical, once i secure an admission.

Again MBA is full time and the average age is 27-29 and you're about 8 years too late

Try an executive MBA where the average age is around 36-39

Since you have a strong experience and if you showcase your desire to pursue a degree and how it can help you and what you can contribute to the class will be helpful

Gmat Club has its own EA, do check it out - https://gmatclub.com/eatests/?fl=menu

take a look at scores - https://gmatclub.com/forum/executive-as ... 22683.html

For Europe - Insead

For US - MIT, Wharton, Stanford and a couple of top notch schools have their exec mbas that you should def check out

Thanks for the information. I don't mean to hijack the thread, but what kind of MBA do you think someone between age 32 and 34 should do?

Hi doitmate,

You are older than the usual applicants with a huge 13 years of experience for a full-time MBA. I think being an older applicant, you possess both pros and cons of it and it depends on you how you capitalize on it. It will be difficult for you to convince the adcoms for wanting to do a career switch now at this point and not capitalizing on your 13 years of experience. I would rather suggest you connect this vision of yours with your prior career. About convincing the adcoms, Try to answer questions like why not go for EMBA after three-four years (if you see growth in your industry and role)? What are the viable options if you do an MBA now or if you do EMBA after a few years? Also, for older applicants, there is an issue of placing them, so generally, adcoms expect older applicants to use their own network to get placed. Therefore, a career switch after 13 years may not be the most viable option for you. So, try to analyze all the options.

On the work front, you have a pretty good 13 years of work experience and, as you have worked in 6 countries, you have a great international exposure (which INSEAD greatly stresses) that you can highlight in your apps. So, on the surface, your work-experience looks pretty solid. But I don't have a lot of details here to properly evaluate this aspect and need to know more about your impact and goals in order to find your USPs. I can see a fast career trajectory here, you need to talk about some of the star projects that you may have worked on. Talk more deeply about your experiences and show how your different roles have developed leadership qualities in you and how you took care of things when things went south. Talking about such experiences helps give adcoms great insight into your values, beliefs, and leadership potential and styles.

I'm missing the details of your ECs (apart from volunteering), do you pursue any hobbies? ECs play a very important role in your apps, revealing your diverse personality, and adcoms get to know the different aspects of your personality.

Your motivation for an MBA is fair, but you will need to explain your decision to make a career change. Make sure you explain your post-MBA goals thoroughly and make adcoms aware of your ambitions. Also, to give you some context, we have a hundred per cent conversion rate for people from oil&gas to Europe schools. You may want to read one of the successful essays to INSEAD. It will help you give a good idea about your chances and will instil “right” confidence in you :)

Overall, you've got a solid profile and a 725+ GMAT score seems fair and if you get it, it will anyways make your job easier. For 1yr full-time MBA INSEAD, HEC, and IMD would be a great choice for you as they accept candidates with a huge work experience. What's going to matter most about your application is how you link experiential dots and make a great narrative to put a mark on adcoms.

If you’d like we are happy to hop on a call with you sometime this week to discuss your profile in length, answer any of your concerns and your further chances to b-school. Feel free to book a free session with us as per your convenience.

Cheers!

So you are at the end of the spectrum for full time on average age and beginning for EMBA

If you want to pursue full time, this year should be when you apply and look for one year programmes
you are early for EMBA so you can get some solid work ex and apply in a few years around 36+

MBAandBeyond Shantanu , thanks for the reply.

I love to have a discussion and will book a session for next week.

Sounds like you are based in Singapore, so i am in same timezone. Make it easier.

My ambition is to be in Senior Leadership Team of the company with in 5-7 years after completing my MBA.

As you are based in Singapore, what are your thoughts on Nanyang, Hong kong, Indian and Australian MBA programs?
How they stack up in comparison to US/ European programs and their global out reach?

It is hard to find one year FT EMBA. Most of EMBA are modular and weekend classes with travel to US or Europe.
Unless i live, work & study in Europe or US.

doitmate, I’m glad to hear that my evaluation has helped you in some way.

Nanyang and Amity are good, but they can only be good options if you're planning to live and work there post-MBA. And the same goes for Hong Kong, Indian and Australian MBA programs. MBS and AGSM are also well equipped with a global community network.

If you don't want to work post-MBA in any of these locations, then US and Europe schools are the best programs out there, thanks to their extensive curricula focusing on global perspectives. So, for deciding the best MBA programs for you, you first need to be clear on your post-MBA goals.

P.S Yes, I am based out of Singapore but currently working from India.

Let’s get on a call and discuss all of it ;) Feel free to book a free session with us as per your convenience.

Cheers!
