Hi All,

Aimed Schools - T15 (US only)

Background - I am a 24M from India
Undergrad - IIT Guwahati (2022 batch), CGPA - 9.2/10
Work experience - BCG (1.5 yr), Meesho (1.5 yr)

Extracurriculars and Achievements
1. Aditya Birla Scholar (2019 recipient)
2. Analytics Club head in Undergrad
3. Worked for queer (Im queer as well) empowerment in Undergrad and BCG

Am I aiming too high? If not, are my chances for scholarship good for the schools im aiming (T15)?

VajjalaVikram Good credentials overall and a strong diversity factor will be uplifting elements in your applications. Where are you with your GMAT/GRE preparation? If you haven't taken the exam, I strongly suggest you take some mock tests to see your current baseline score and set a realistic estimate to decide your target schools from within the T15. Given your strong undergraduate pedigree, I think you would be a good match for the T15 schools. Scholarship chances will depend on the strength of the application and your GMAT score. You should evaluate whether your exam score would carry the weight of your profile or the other way round. To go a level deeper into your profile evaluation, I would have liked to know more about the nature of the work you did at Meesho and currently at BCG. Your professional growth trajectory is also not clear. What you want to do with the MBA in the long term and the context around where you want to work in the short to medium term also plays an important role. Is there a typo in your details? 2022 graduation would mean 2 years of work experience today, unless you've quoted 1.5 years x 2 based on experience by the time you matriculate in Sep 2025.

Two recommendations from my side:
1. 740 may be okay for T11–T20, probably not enough for T10
2. Assuming you are a graduate of 2022 (not 2021), and assuming you intend to apply this year, I'd say that three years of work experience by Fall 2025 may not be enough

In sum, you have the time to consider improving your score and gain one more year of experience to apply in R1 of 2025 for the Fall 2026 start. This also gives you the time to add some key professional achievements and build length of experience to make your recommendations more believable.

@VajjalaVikram - interesting profile. Some thoughts: 1. The undergrad (IIT) pedigree, GPA and BCG/ Meesho exposure are strong angles. Latest (Classic) GMAT averages of top MBA programs are here - aiming for 10-20+ points above the averages of your target programs would be ideal. 2. Your work-ex (assuming 3 years as of today) is a bit on the lower side particularly for M7 programs - these tend to have averages of ~5 years. Latest class profiles at M7's are here FYI. For US Top 10-20, the # of years may not be an issue. Scholarship chances depend on both merit (e.g. GMAT, work-ex quality, ECs, school fitment) and need angles, and how well these are presented in essays. 3. If you're keen on US Top-10, applying next year after building a strong profile can help. Each year, we work with smart candidates (including IITians) to help build their profile for US Top-10. Having said that, there are exceptions to the rule. If the strength of professional arc (key achievements, skillsets gained), extracurriculars, career plan are super strong, you could apply to a mix of US Top-15 MBA programs this year. I'd like to understand these dimensions in-depth to assess accordingly. 4. What are your career goals post MBA i.e. which sector/ function/ geographies are you looking at? Considering your IIT background, the BCG experience, scholarships, and leadership potential, you have a number of strong talking points; however, you will need to compliment your profile with a strong GMAT score; a score in excess of 750 (talking in Classic terms) is what would help you put forth a strong case.

Having said the above, we find your years of experience on the lower side for your target schools; hence, our suggestion would be to spend another year working on building your profile as well as achieving the 99th percentile on the GMAT.

Witha. good GMAt, a T15 should be possible - say a 715+.
