1A , why is it a NO . we can assume both are being used . thats what we do for the others rights .

That is because we do not know. If you do not know, the answer is "no"
You only say "YES" if you are confident in 100% that this is the only outcome. In this case 2 different launch vehicles could have been used since both were operational during the first flight and we do not actually know based on the chart.


The first American in space flew in a mission with a Mercury-Redstone launch vehicle.
Here is how the answers would look like based on the information provided:

If we know that only M-R was usedYES
If we know that M-R could have been used or AtlasNO
We know that M-R was not usedNO

We haven't been given sufficient information to confirm this. When in doubt, go for no; as the question stem states

Because Atlas-Agena’s first flight was February 26, 1960 (before Mercury’s first flight on May 5, 1961, Gemini’s on March 23, 1965, and Apollo’s on October 11, 1968), and its last flight was June 27, 1978 (after Mercury ended on May 15, 1963, Gemini on November 11, 1966, and Apollo on December 7, 1972).
