Hi Gagan,

Approximately 2 weeks ago, we discussed how you had not studied much since taking the GMAT last July (almost 10 months ago) - so taking a NEW CAT/mock would be a good idea (to assess your current skills, strengths and weaknesses). Have you taken a new CAT yet (and if you did, then how did you score?)? In addition, what studying - if any - have you done over the last 2 weeks?

Hey

I am starting my RC section after a long time and I need assistance with the strategy I should choose (especially with time). Also, please suggest me the source of question that I should practice to gain some efficiency in it.

Gagan

Hi Gagan,

Before you start practicing questions, try to understand the right process of reading the passages and solving the RC questions. And as you are just starting with the RC module, it's better that you not worry about the timing right now. Let me help you with the process.

How to approach GMAT RC passages?

RC questions on GMAT mainly test your inferential skills. If you can understand the intention behind writing the passage, then you can solve RC questions with ease. So, I would suggest you to read the passage in an inferential manner. Do not focus on the details because you can always come back to the passage when you come across the detail based questions. Understand the purpose of each sentence and make a mental summary of each para. Once you are done with all the paras, derive the main point of the passage.

Please go through the recording below to understand the approach in a better way.

Having said that, do not focus on time when you are learning the methodology. During the initial stages, take your time to solve the passages using the right methodology. The focus has to be on getting the approach right. Once you start getting a decent accuracy, you can start timing yourself.

If you need any more help with the approach or with study strategy, feel free to get in touch using the below link.

Hey Rich

Hope you are doing fine in this uncertain time. Currently, I am focussing more on OG right now. I have completed Quant, SC and CR (All with over 90 per cent accuracy) and I think I am reading well this time. I will be focussing on RC for a week then I will be doing a Kaplan or Manhattan mock. Also, I am writing my essay for Rotterdam University, Netherland.

If you have recommendations for improvement, please do share.

Hi Gagan,

At this point, we have no way of knowing how well your recent studies have been in helping you (re)learn the various concepts, patterns and Tactics of the GMAT - so there's no way to offer you any practical advice YET about how you should continue your studies. If you're performing as well on the OG content as you say you are, then there's no reason to wait to take your next CAT. As such, I strongly recommend that you take a NEW CAT this weekend so that we can properly assess how you perform under Test-like conditions. Once you have that Score, I'll be happy to discuss the results with you - and how you might best proceed with your studies.
