RC was tricky for me in the beginning because I either read too fast and missed the details, or read too slow and ran out of time. What helped me was finding a balance that worked for
me, not just following standard advice.
- I stopped memorizing every detail. Instead, I trained myself to capture the structure:
👉 What’s the main point?
👉 What role does each paragraph play? (background, argument, counter, evidence, etc.) - I read with a purpose. I asked myself as I read: “Why is the author telling me this?” That way, when I got to the questions, I already knew where to look back.
- I didn’t panic over tough passages. If a passage was dense (science or philosophy), I reminded myself: the GMAT isn’t testing my knowledge, just my ability to follow the logic.
- I focused on accuracy first. Like CR, I initially gave myself extra time per passage. Once I became consistent with answers, the speed followed naturally.
In short:
big picture first, details only when the question demands it. This mindset shift alone improved both my accuracy and my confidence on RC.
