Hi
MBA2023applicant!
Thanks for reaching out and being open to feedback. Sorry to hear about the decisions you've received thus far. I have to admit I don't see any obvious gaps in your profile. From what I can tell, you've got great GPA / GMAT stats, and your work experience is right in line with school averages. The banking to PE path is a fairly common one, but also one that schools know is quite selective. Plus, you have the experience in South Asia, which I think would be a nice plus. It seems like you have strong leadership and extracurriculars too, assuming some of those are current. So like I said, no obvious gaps.
Did you do much school research / networking? Had you visited campuses / attended events? If not, that could have been a red flag, especially for schools like Wharton, Columbia, Booth. Harvard and Stanford are such reaches so your decisions there could have just been bad luck. I also think you might have done a bit better in R1 vs. R2.
I'd want to dig into your essays more, to see if you told a compelling story and offered a perspective that really intrigued admissions. I'd also want to dissect your interview a bit more. Perhaps your interviewer didn't give you the highest recommendation, or was being polite in the follow-up note. Columbia interviews are also known for digging deep into your fit and interest with the school, so perhaps they thought you were great, but unlikely to attend if offered a spot.
I'm assuming you've now heard from MIT since first posting this, so let us know your result there (either here or via PM). We'd be happy to chat further via a free phone consultation (link below in my signature) or even do a formal ding review (

All the best,
Kate

Hello All,
I applied to a number of schools round 2 this year and worked with a consulting firm on the applications. The results have been much below what I was hoping for, and am planning to re-apply in the 1st round for next year. I had felt and been told by the consulting firm I worked with that my profile should be very strong for all of the schools I applied to, but based on how things have turned out, I think there must be some gap in my application that I'm not able to see. I applied to the following programs, which I recognize are extremely competitive, but any thoughts on areas of the profile that seem weak / confusing would be extremely helpful
- HBS - rejected without interview
- Wharton - rejected without interview
- Columbia - interviewed. After the rejection my interviewer emailed me that the interview had gone very well, which was in line with how I felt, so must have been something in the application and not the interview itself
- Booth - rejected without interview
- Stanford - no result yet
- MIT - no result yet
