Hello guys,
I'm a recent graduate from a T2 engineering college in India with an average GPA of 6.67. I just hated engineering. I have really strong extracurriculars, (national level award winner as a dancer, partner in an event management "start-up", event management etc etc), I've learnt German to a strong B2 level as well. I have one intl internship, the other 3 I have were also decent. GMAT is 720. I can join an MNC for a low level job (IT) as my brother is well placed in one, once I make up my mind.
My issue is this: for almost my entire college life, I had that dream of doing an MiM from Germany, getting into strategy consulting, living a much "better" life than in India and all that good stuff. Problem is, however, I didn't do much research (and I believe most young grads don't do so either) into int/non-EU grads of these MiM programs, and their jobs post graduates. It hit me only recently, when I am sitting and filling the apps, that I should look for alumni of these programs and their profiles after graduation.
I mean, I'm not saying people don't find good jobs, don't get me wrong. But for consulting, I haven't seen a single person who's a) non-EU, and b)doesn't have full time work experience, working in consulting roles.
The rare one or two people that I did find are in the Dubai/UAE office and had prior experience, not to mention, these people were HEC Paris grads. Maybe my network isn't wide enough, but this is what I've seen. And now this has put me in a really confusing spot.
ISB is supposedly one of the biggest schools in the world for consulting, and the average salaries regardless put you in the top bracket (or near about). This really does make me consider: Is the European MiM worth it? My family is decently well to do, and can afford the fees for these programs (which fall in the same ball park), but I am on my own after this.
Don't get me wrong, I fully understand the HUGE assumption I'm making of making it through to ISB (which is one of the toughest processes to crack), but even if I were not to get through, I would still have a year of work ex that would certainly not detract from my chances at MiM next year. So I am really confused, and I don't know how to make a decision. I hope you guys can offer alternative opinions.
Thanks a lot.
Well I am in a similar pickle now...I have received my admits from ISB EEO and Essec business school. What did you end up choosing and why?
