I just gave my GMAT last week and starting to think about my options. I am considering primarily PT mba programs, but also giving a thought about FT programs.
My profile:
GMAT: 710(Q50/V35). (I was getting mid-700s in the GMAT prep mocks but should have put in more effort/time in verbal, but was kind of not too concerned since my primary target was PT programs)
High School: 98.5%
Undergrad: BITS, Pilani (Mech engg) 7.7/10
Grad: Arizona State Univ (MS - Mech) 3.4/4 (Have research papers, thesis, projects, Teaching exp for 1.5 years)
Work Exp:
Intern/Trainee for over a year in manufacturing, quality control with GE India and manuf firm in Chennai
Tech consulting for 14 months with a Intellectual Property consulting firm in New Delhi
Working as R&D software engineer in design automation/simulation for auto/ship/aerospace industry at Siemens USA (100% technical job) - past 6 years
Extra curr- played volleyball, cricket etc at school/college level, participation in tech meets, organize hackathon, manage employee clubs etc at work.
1. I am leaning 90% towards a high ranked part-time program such as Booth/Kellogg/Ross/Haas with a career transition into consulting/strategy/product management. I can get good recommendations from my managers and I hope to write good essays too. How good are my chances at my target schools for part-time? The typical class profiles are all over the place with a GMAT scores ranging fromm 600-720 and very different backgrounds. How competitive are these programs?
2. Is it a stretch for me to apply FT mba at tech heavy schools such as Ross/Darden/Tepper/Anderson? Since I am 31 now, would I be considered too old for the regular program? I am from India and that makes me think about retaking my GMAT since I would be competing with younger Indian applicants who have 720+. I seem to be just around the average GMAT score for these schools, and believe I have a decent profile too, but I have heard that the adcom usually looks if the candidate will "fit". Would that work against me based on your experience if I go FT?
Thanks
