Official Answer (OA) – D
Concepts Tested – Verb, Meaning, Pronoun Reference
The singular subject ‘research’ requires the singular verb ‘shows’. Hence
eliminate A. Also the singular ‘friendship’ requires the singular ‘tends’

C unnecessarily uses the continuous tense (is showing) so eliminate C as well.

E - The phrase ‘friendships in school’ distorts the meaning by suggesting that the
friendship was only for the period one was in school.

Both B and D get the meaning right. To figure out which one is correct look at the
part after the underline that says ‘those made later in life’. The use of ‘those’
suggests that we need to go with the plural friendships i.e. D is the best answer.

Split "show" vs "shows" and "a friendship" vs "friendship".....followed by "....than those...."
