It's a recruitment strategy. You're right though. Harvard is so humane about it. Everyone gets emailed at the same time and then they call to follow up with admits.

Hi BombayPride,

As a member of the Ross Class of 2014, I can see that some of the things mentioned and referenced that Ross is racist against minorities or international students is not untrue. I believe that our school has one of the most supportive cultures in the elite MBA world. I am also a member of the Constortium for Graduate Study in Management, which is an association that helps promote diversity in business schools and the ranks of management. If you are concerned about how the international or minority experience is like at Ross, please either PM me directly or speak to one of our current student ambassadors. Our student ambassadors tell it how it really is at our program. (they are things that can be improved at Ross, but they are so many things here that are incredible at the same time). I would hate to see a great future classmate be deterred from joining this community based on information that may not reflect what is like at Ross today (I cannot speak for the program 10-15 years back).

Thanks for the feedback - I agree with Brady that it is a bad idea to overgeneralize based on a few bad apples on P&Q. On the other hand, I don't think the bolded part above came out the way you meant it (darn double negatives). :lol:

Have any of you seen the comments from this article? Not the comments from Businessweek but from the 100+ post below responding to the article. It is truly shocking. Duke has a party culture but it does not seem to be racist. I don't know what is more shocking - the response from alums who are internationals, the arrogance of current students or the immaturity from prospective students who wish to go there.

Reality is that Ross's culture is extremely collaborative, and my experience has been that the community on a whole is very inclusive. There are, of course, always going to be some people you don't love in a community of Ross's size, but my strong inclination is that anyone who feels/felt excluded must have made efforts to avoid being included.

Related to that, it needs to be said that many of those comments' authors focus on what the community didn't do for them, without any mention of what they attempted to do for the community. As always, you need to be a _contributing_ part of the community if you want to really be a part of the community. This is basic life-skill stuff.

Also, any talk of any degree of latent racism reveals a perspective so skewed that rebuttal is unnecessary.

All of that said, it would be a shame if you let a single idiotic comment thread convince you not to apply. What you should do is visit the school: chat with some MBAs in the Winter Garden, attend a class, and maybe even go to the weekly happy hour. Ask the questions you want answered and decide for yourself.

I wouldn't worry too much about it, unless there was some hard evidence. I attended the Ross reception in Bangalore and they had an impressive showing of alumni, from those who graduated 10 years ago to those who graduated last year. All of them were emphatic in their love for Ross. Yeah one alumnus did mention that you always have a couple of people who don't take part in school activities, but they did not belong to any particular region or minority.

It finally comes down to 'fit'. If you fit in with the fratty/commuter/intellectual atmosphere at school, you wouldn't feel out of place. That's why the adcoms are so concerned about bringing the right group of people together.

Ok, so I have a voicemail from the associate dean saying i'll get an email with 'some information' tomorrow. I'm going to assume they don't call dings and waitlists...reasonable to assume I'm in?
