The median score was 54 and x < y. [there are a total of seven numbers and hence median will be the third number. Also, arrange the numbers in ascending order]

=> 35, 48, 54, 76, 89 [We aren't sure right now to place 'x' and 'y' but median is still 54]

Mode: 76 [76 should have highest frequency, so both x = y = 76 but as x < y then y = 76]

=> 35, 48, 54, 76, y[76], 89

'x' has to be less than '54' so that median remains '54'.
