Scientists working on a number of separate projects made contributions to the invention of the radio, including Nikola Tesla, who was one of the first to receive a patent in the United States for what was then called “wireless transmission of data.”

A. ..

B. radio; including as Nikola Tesla

C. radio, including Nikola Tesla

D. radio; not least among them being Nikola Tesla

E. radio; especially Nikola Tesla

Only answers with justifications would be benefcial :)
I think C reads best

A- "such as" incorrect here. looks like such as links "Nikola Tesla" a person to the "radio"
invention of the radio, such as(e.g) Nikola Tesla
B- "including as" incorrect
C- Scientists......made contributions to the invention..., including Nikola Testla, Who was the one
Above statement chages the meaning of original sentence.
From the above sentence Scientists who made contributions to the invention of radio, including Nikola Tesla (looks like He has not made any contributions to the invention of radio)

Take the following e.g.
Mechanics who fixed the car, including Owner of the Car, went to Cafe. ( Mechanics and Owner went to Cafe, but only mechanics fixed the car)
Mechanics, including Owner, fixed the car and then went to cafe. (Here Mechanics and owner fixed the car and then went to cafe).

I would like rewrite the above statement with correct usage of "including"

Scientists, including Nikola Tesla, working on a number of separate projects made contributions to the invention of the radio; He was one of the first to receive patent in the United States for what was then then called “wireless transmission of data.”

correct me :P if the above sentence is wrong .

D) Awkard and wordy

E) Describes better.

Please bear with me... I am still novice in this field.

I will go for E

What is OA?

Any takers.

OA is C. I think none of the options do justice to the sentence. C is just the least horrible one.

btw suresh,
E cant be correct because the clause after ; is not an independent clause.

As for the concern you raised about C, you are right. However, that problem is a "good to avoid" one and not a "must be avoided" one.

C

";" divides two independent clauses. B,D,E do not contain a clause in their second part.

So, A and C remain. A is clearly wrong, because "such as" modifies preceding noun "radio".

E is wrong because if you put ";", the second part of the sentence is really incomplete.

Thus C,

Thanks

C is also Strange IMO.

C will make sense if there is a commna after scientists :

Scientists working on a number of separate projects made contributions to the invention of the radio, including Nikola Tesla - > radio including Nicola tesla ? I dont think this makes sense?

Scientists,
working on a number of separate projects made contributions to the invention of the radio,
including Nikola Tesla.

Now this is correct, as including Nikola Tesla is modifying scientists.

+1 C

"including" clearly refers to scientists.
