Ah, I see! I don't believe you can apply for 2022 J-term until May 2021 (that's typically when Columbia opens their new application for each cycle). Since they are rolling, Columbia does render decisions fairly quickly. But to hold a spot in an August 2021 entry program you would need to put down a deposit well before then. You could always contact/email Columbia admissions and double check that they wouldn't let you apply sooner for the J-term option.
