From the passage, no matter when someone was born, they belong to one of the Pre-War Generation, the Baby Boomers, Generation X, or Generation Y. So if someone belongs to Generation D, that person also belong to some other generation, and answer C must be true.

The problem with the question is that answer A is true as well -- someone born between 1961 and 1975 certainly did not "grow up with... Internet technology"; that could only be true of someone growing up in the 1990s or later. The only reason A is not the right answer here is because it's not true "according to the information provided above", but that's problematic, because we need to just ignore basic facts of the world, and if we needed to do that to answer GMAT CR questions, we couldn't answer anything. If, for example, a question said "Bears have fur. What is true according to the information given?" and one answer choice said "Some animals have fur", it would be absurd to say "that's wrong because the stem didn't tell us bears are animals". But that's essentially what we need to do here if we're going to say A is a wrong answer.
Haha I couldn't have described my feelings about this question any better!

Well, electronic computers have been around since the 1940s.
- Those born from 1961 to 1975, are referred to as Generation X.
- Generation D members grew up with, and integrate, computer and Internet technology into every aspect of their lives.

It's POSSIBLE that some members of generation X grew up with computers.
For example, a child of an IBM employee COULD HAVE grown up with computers. And that child may now 'integrate information technology' into every aspect of her life (as most of us do).

So, it is possible that some members of Gen X are also members of Gen D.

Answer Choice A says "No members of Generation X are members of Generation D."
This is not necessarily true.

Sociologists often refer to certain age groups in this country in terms of the generation to which they belong. All of those born before 1940 are generally considered the Pre-War Generation. The Baby Boomer Generation includes those people born from 1941 to 1960, during or after World War II. Those born from 1961 to 1975, are referred to as Generation X, most noted for their supposed disillusionment with the attitudes about career ambition and money-making held dear, according to sociologists, by the Baby Boomers. Generation Y refers to all those born in 1975 or later. However, a new name, Generation D, or Digital, has been coined very recently. Generation D is often defined by the fact that its members grew up with, and integrate, computer and Internet technology into every aspect of their lives.

According to the information provided above, which of the following must be true?

(A) No members of Generation X are members of Generation D.
This is possibility let us hang on to it

(B) All members of Generation X disagree with the attitudes of Baby Boomers about career ambition.
This is a far fetched assumption and may or may not be true therefore let us safely rule it out

(C) All members of Generation D are also members of another generation.
This too can be true since provison for different generation is given in the passage therefore let us hang on to it

(D) No person can be a member of more than one generation.
This isn't true as only we can work out a possibility of 3 generation got Gen Y

(E) All members of Generation Y are also members of another generation.
'All ' members is a farcry which we can disapprove therefore out

if all the coditions assiagned to generation D aren't ironclad there is a possibility that X generation can overlap

Therefore IMO C

Ha, that's hilarious, I'm a child of two IBM employees. :) And we didn't have a computer at home until I was in high school, maybe they didn't want to see a computer when they got home from work. I agree with you that a Gen Xer could have grown up with computers, since many people had home computers in the '80s, and I agree that people of any age could now be integrating computers and internet fully into their lives. But no one was using anything resembling Internet technology in the '80s, and the reason I find the question problematic is because it says Gen D members grew up with Internet tech too.

KarishmaB please explain which one is correct

Snehaaaaa

Explanation-

Fact-
Sociologists refer to certain age groups in terms of the generation to which they belong

1. Pre-War Generation- Born before 1940
2. Baby Boomer Generation- Born from 1941 to 1960
3. Generation X- Born from 1961 to 1975
4. Generation Y- Born in 1975 or later
5. Generation D- its members grew up with, and integrate, computer and Internet technology into every aspect of their lives.

Here, we have defined years for the first 3 generations, while for Generation Y we just know that it takes into account all the people born in 1975 or later. But no information is provided till when.
And for Generation D, we just know they are the digital generation. But no detail about the years.

(A) No members of Generation X are members of Generation D.- This can be inferred from the argument as we know that generation X people are the ones who are born from 1961 to 1975. And those are not the years when the computer was used in every aspect of life.

(B) All members of Generation X disagree with the attitudes of Baby Boomers about career ambition.- This was told by Sociologists and not by all the members of generation X

(C) All members of Generation D are also members of another generation.- This could be a possibility as there is no detail about the start of generation D. But we cannot infer this from the argument

(D) No person can be a member of more than one generation.- This is not given in the argument.

(E) All members of Generation Y are also members of another generation- This is also not given in the argument.
