Hey guys
Congrats to all of you who got admitted in R1!
I'm currently working on my essays for R2, so maybe we can be classmates :)

I'm writing my personal essays right now,
and my "what matters most" essay and "what do you want to do" essay are basically part of the same story.
I can't decide on where and how to cut my story to allow for 2 separate essays.

Can I just leave my first essay with an unfinished ending, and then restart the story right away in the second one?
Or, since Stanford has a word limit for the essays combined, can I just answer both essays in one long one?
What do you guys think?

Thanks in advance for your advice!

For those who were dinged, what are your plans?

1. Stay put and reapply in 1+ years?
2. Switch jobs and reapply in 1 year?
3. Switch jobs and reapply in 2+ years?
4. Other?

If I were the adcom, I'd like to see a clear introduction-body-conclusion structure for each essay. And no, you can't answer with just one long essay. (That also increases the risk of not answering the questions). Follow the instructions to the T. Go safe.

Does anyone know historically what the chances of being admitted off the waitlist are? Know it is completely dependent on the quality/quantity of applicants in R2, but just wondering if anyone had any insight into previous years.

Thanks!

Hi all,
I'm working on R2 application now.
For Just for Fun questions, should I take some time to think about deeply? or it is really just for fun?
I wonder what others write. Please advise those who finished or R1 people.

My understanding is that odds are quite low, but not impossible. From the "waitpool" FAQ from DB, the size of the pool ranges from 75-200 every year. That's a lot of people in the same situation as you who were all also passed over in the initial look. Obviously a lot depends on your individual situation and how that matches the class composition.

FROM Stanford Admissions Blog: Visit Stanford GSB This Winter
On-campus events for 2013 are winding to a close, but registration for Winter Quarter on-campus events has just opened, including:

  • Information sessions: Offered on most Mondays and Fridays throughout the year when classes are in session.
  • Class Visits: Offered Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays at various times, beginning 13 January 2014.
  • Knight Management Center Tours: 30-minute tours led by an MBA student. Offered Mondays and Fridays, beginning 13 January 2014.
While visiting Stanford GSB is a great way to get to know our program better, a campus visit is neither required nor expected. Out of fairness to all applicants, we do not give preferential treatment in the admission process to those who have visited the GSB.

Find out more about Admission events on our website. We look forward to meeting you soon!

Finishing R2 essays here, maybe you guys can help me with a quick question.

I read that dropping out from any courses should be deeply addressed, for any school, as unclear "quitting" adds serious negative points to your application.

I went to two separate universities simultaneously, but, because of travels and internships, graduated from one before the other.
When I was graduating from the first one, I received and accepted a really great job offer that implicated in moving to a different city and leaving my second university unfinished.

Do you think this would raise a red flag (and have to be thoroughly explained), or would it seem as a natural decision (and a quick sentence explaining would be sufficient)?

Agree here! Got accepted Round 1; advice would be introspection essay 1, you in a bigger context essay 2. Definitely make sure the 2 essays are distinct. Good luck!

Hello all,

I will be applying to Stanford mba program in R2. I have already taken the gmat, but had not indicated Stanford as one of the recipients when I took the test.

Do we have to send an official report before our application OR only the self-reporting is sufficient for now, and official report is needed only when we are accepted/called for interview?

Hey! I'm applying to round 2 as well.

You can check the guidelines on the GSB website - https://www.gsb.stanford.edu/programs/m ... s/gmat-gre

Now that I read it, I believe you can just self-report scores.
However, I was in the same position as you and I decided to play it safe - submitted my official score reports a few weeks ago.
Sorry if this is confusing - Maybe some of the admitted R1 applicants can comment on this: did you submit official score reports or self-report your scores?

What do you all think... is it okay if the experience I want to write about happened exactly 37 months ago? (three years and one month)

I don't think they care about exact dates. The point is moreso that it is a recent experience.
