Let the number of nickels be x.
Hence, number of dimes is 15+x

5x + 10(15+x) = 525
5x + 150 + 10x = 525
15x = 375
x = 25(Option B)

40 dimes equal to 4\$ and (40-15) i.e. 25 nickel equals to 1.25 \$ ..total is 5.25\$ hence option B

(nickel = 5 cents, dime = 10 cents)

(A) 20
(B) 25
(C) 27
(D) 30
(E) 33

We can create the equations:

0.05n + 0.1d = 5.25

5n + 10d = 525

n + 2d = 105

n = 105 - 2d

and

d = 15 + n

Substituting, we have:

n = 105 - 2(15 + n)

n = 105 - 30 - 2n

3n = 75

n = 25
