Hi srikanth9502,

Before I can offer you the specific advice that you’re looking for, it would help if you could provide a bit more information on how you've been studying and your goals:

Studies:
1) How long have you studied?
2) What materials have you used?
3) How have you scored on each of your CATs (including the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores)?
4) Have you taken the FULL CAT each time (with the Essay and IR sections)?

Goals:
5) When are you planning to take the GMAT?
6) When are you planning to apply to Business School?
7) What Schools are you planning to apply to?

GMAT assassins aren't born, they're made,
Rich
Hi Rich,

Studies:

1. I've spent 2 months on studies till now.
2. Enrolled for both Princeton Review and Byju's GMAT Courses and have been using only their material from past 2 months.
3. Score breakup (Quant - 43, Verbal - 30). - Princeton Review CAT (CAT was the part of the Course)
4. I took the exam without AWA section.

Goals:

1. Planning to take the exam in first week of June 2017.
2. Apply to the B-Schools by the mid of August 2017.
3. Thinking of applying to ISB, NUS, NTU, INSEAD (Your Suggestions on which B-Schools can be targeted with a score range of 700- 710 will be of great help )

Regards,
Srikanth

Guys, i am scoring 600- 610 in the mock tests. I need your suggestions regarding how to improve my score to 700- 710. I took a break from work and will be able to dedicate my entire time for GMAT preparation for next 2 months.

What is your score in GMATPrep? Official CATs would give you the real picture.

1. Take couple of the CATs from MGMAT, Veritas, GMATClub or whichever you have the access of
2. Review them thoroughly
3. Practice on the weak areas
4. Take GMAT Prep CAT
5. Repeat

In the entire duration Keep reading everyday. Reading should help you in verbal immensely. The most important and most effective is to Practice verbal from OFFICIAL Material Only. MGMAT is also good.

For Quant GMAT Club CATs are gold.

If you practice and review well, then in the 2 months you can definitely run this marathon. Try to be confident all the time and take care of health. Do not study so much that you drain yourself. Study less but learn more. for this, There is nothing better than revision of concepts, traps and patterns to improve in GMAT. This is the Key!

Hope the advice helps :)
Thanks for your suggestions HKD.

Hi srikanth9502,

Since you appear to have taken just one 3rd-party practice CAT (and you skipped the Essay section), we can't assume that this one score result is an accurate reflection of your abilities. As such, I strongly recommend that you take one of the Official GMAC practice CATs and do so in a realistic fashion (so take the FULL CAT - with the Essay and IR sections, take it away from your home, at the same time of day as when you think you'll take the Official GMAT, etc.). Once you have that score, you should report back here and we can discuss how to adjust your studies.

I took a total 4 CAT's till now. My score was 490 at the beginning of the course. Then I scored 530 after a month's preparation and in the last 2 tests (which I took after one more month's preparation), the scores were 610 (Q-41, V-33), 600 (Q-43, V-30) respectively. All the CAT's were a part of Princeton Review's course and all of them were taken without AWA.

Princeton Review CAT's are good, but their main problem as I can see - the algorithm gives too much importance to the first 15 questions. Even with 1/2 wrong in the first 15, the algorithm stop considering giving you any problems at "7/8" level (even if you get next all 15 questions correct). You have to struggle a lot to reach "7/8" level problems, and once you reach there, you can really find some very good well written questions.
So, at initial stage, their CAT can suppress your score very much. But, with time, as you become proficient with 500/600 level problems and eliminate silly errors and so on, the CAT can give a very good score prediction. So, at present, you will score a bit higher in GMATPrep, may be around 650. But, as Rich mentioned above, do consider taking all CAT with AWA and IR.
You have ample time till June, and 700+ is very well attainable. Good luck !!

Hi srikanth9502,

If you've truly been studying for several months, but you have not taken any of the Official CATs yet (and you've skipped the Essay every time that you took a CAT), then you really MUST take one of the Official CATs as discussed. Right now, you're basing your whole study routine on a handful of (likely 'inflated') 3rd party CAT scores. Before we can discuss how best to adjust your studies so that you can hit your score goal, we really need the most accurate data possible.
