Go for a good verbal course.
Maybe Gmatwhiz or Egmat.

Hey Varun,

The key thing you need before you embark on retake prep is the answer to the WHY question.

WHY are you getting Verbal questions wrong?

More often than not, after extensive studying, the easiest things to fix are process problems -- how you're tackling each question step by step.

For example
In SC, are you first eliminating answers in SC before trying to pick the right answer?
In CR, are you clearly restating to yourself the argument before trying to chose an answer?
In RC, are you capturing purpose and tone on a paragraph by paragraph basis?

These a few examples of many Verbal strategies that will help you to quickly fill your score GAP.

It's tough to self analyze your process, so we offer a free 90 minute diagnostic session live 1-on-1 with a GMAT performance coach. You'll get

1) the answers that will create focus in your retake prep
2) access to expert help to overcome your process gaps
3) new energy and belief in your retake prep

Let me know if you're interested in the free session.

Hi,

I gave the official GMAT Mock test - 1 yesterday and scored a 620(Q49 V26). I am aiming for a 700 and would need some help with verbal prep. I am currently using the GMAT Official Guides and as per the test review it seems like I need to practice CR more. I am planning to write my GMAT by May end.

Any inputs on this would be appreciated.

Wow that's a nice score to begin with. Seeing your split it's clear that you just need to work on your verbal. Why don't you check out EducationAisle? Ashish provides a lot of guidance through out your prep. You could sign up for a free trial and see how it works out for you

I'd also recommend you to check out PowerScore CR Bible (ofcourse for CR) and EducationAisle SC Nirvana (ofcourse for SC). These two books do a lot in building your concepts on the respective sections. You may also want to start reading WSJ and LSAT RCs to improve on your RC skills.

Hope this helps :)

Hey Vaarun44 ,

In order to increase your Verbal score you need to balance out in all the 3 sections i.e. Sentence Correction, Critical Reasoning and RC.

If CR is your weakness, it's quite evident to say that you must not only practice more questions from that arena but also devise appropriate strategy. DO NOT solve questions just by randomly jumping into the answer choices. Focus on argument structure and understand from the GMAT point of view. Predict the answer before you to answer choices and focus on elimination rather than Selection. CR is one question type, where you get 8 out of 9 questions if you follow the appropriate strategy.

If you share your email id and phone number, I can set up an appointment for you with our GMAT expert and explore ways we can help you realise your full potential on GMAT thereby achieve your dream score.

Hi Varun44,

Even I scored V26 in my first attempt. And trust me practicing questions isn't enough to improve your score. You need to do a lot before you practice. There is a certain way in which you approach each module in Verbal. I got to know that only after I started studying from an online course called GMATWhiz.

I used to struggle a lot with CR questions but later on, when I learnt the framework and the guidelines, my process of solving CR questions became a lot more structured and I started seeing the results. The same goes with SC and RC as well. You need to understand what is it that is actually tested using those questions and prepare accordingly. Your methods and strategies have to be good enough to eliminate four incorrect answer choices on solid grounds. You can go through my debrief to understand how I changed my approach after scoring 570 in my first attempt.

Scoring a perfect CR 51 ( 97 percentile ) from being an amateur in CR

Hope it helped. I suggest you to choose a proper resource and focus more on the process. Just practicing questions is not going to help. All the best :)
