Question :GMAC's rule of maximum 8 attempts (specific to my situation)

Question

Hello,

I understand that the GMAC notified about the rule for maximum 8 attempts on June 19, 2015 and the rule came in effect from Dec 17, 2016.

My situation: 
I made 4 attempts prior to the GMAC's notification date (June 19, 2015) and 4 attempts after this date. 
Due to some reasons, I was unable to get the desired score.

Upon trying to register, the GMAC website didn't allow me to register for the 9th attempt, and upon contacting the GMAC they suggested me to send a petition with any supporting documents.

My questions: 
(1) Given that there was no way I knew about this rule prior to June 2015, I should logically be eligible to make 4 more attempts.

Is there any precedence about the similar situation with someone else, and what was the GMAC's decision on that?

(2) Could someone guide me about the format of such appeal (to make the 9th attempt) that I am advised to send to the GMAC?
Which documents could someone attach with such petition?

It would really help me to know about these and get connected to someone who has gone through the similar situation.

Hello,  Eugenious , and welcome to the community. I am not sure why anyone would want to take the GMAT™ more than eight times, but in any case, I cannot find any information through mba.com about flexibility on that topic. I would start by asking someone through the contact form on the site. Present some compelling reason why you might need to take it again in that form. Otherwise, you will probably receive a patent answer about policy after you have waited longer than you would want.

I have knowledge about few cases who tried to submit for the 9th attempt with diverse excuses, but non of them was accepted.

I have edited my posting to make it more specific to my situation (my 4 attempts were made prior to the GMAC's notification date about this rule in 2015).

Did any of the people you referred were under similar situation? How did GMAC respond to that?

Eugenious  have you tried the GRE? Quant in the GRE is quite easier than that in the GMAT, while Verbal is very comparable except for the Vocabulary part, which takes time to develop.

While back in 2016 or whenever the rule went into effect, GMAC said that this was a policy that won’t affect regular test takers And they would not unduly deny normal test takers from taking the GMAT, and was designed to prevent tutors and question thieves from taking the tests over and over again, the reality is that it has impacted a number of users and several have been denied.... often after a lengthy wait time for review of the petition.

You can and definitely should submit a petition but keep in mind that it may take a while (1-2 months to get an answer and it very likely may be negative ... which would waste a bunch of time)
