Theory: Number of terms in a series with consecutive integers = Last term - First term + 1

Easier to understand using numbers

Let's say you are on page 4 and finish on page 6 then number of pages you will read is 6-4+1 = 3 (pages 4, 5 and 6)

Applying the logic here, number of pages you will read = k - h + 1

So, Answer will be E

Subtract h - 1 on both values. If we start from 1 and end on k - (h - 1), then we have read k - (h - 1) = k - h + 1 pages.

Correct answer: (E) k-h+1
If the answer doesn't come intuitively to mind, the easiest way to solve is to plug in values for k and h and check-
I) k = 5, h = 3 , You start from 3rd page and read pages 3,4 and 5. Hence, a total of 3 pages. Plug in values of k and h into the answer choices one by one, only answer choice E gives the correct answer.
II) To confirm, check with another pair of values, k = 8, h = 4. You read pages 4,5,6,7 and 8. Hence, total 5 pages. Again, this is answer is reached only by k - h + 1.

Total pages read: k - h + 1 [Total terms: last - first + 1]
