Hello,
I have started preparing for the GMAT, and I will attempt it around Nov-Dec this year. By that time, only the 3rd/final round of admissions are open to me.
My question is : Is it worth it to try for the final round this year? Or prepare more for another year and try next year?
My reason being that most of the seats are already filled by then, and only the high scorers will get selected in the final round.

If you knock the GMAT out of the park, you certainly could give 3rd round a shot; however, I honestly would not make any decisions yet. Just focus on getting your GMAT to where it needs to be and then you can figure out when to apply. That said, if you need any advice regarding your GMAT, feel free to reach out.

You're ultimately asking an Admissions question, so you would likely find it beneficial to speak with an Admissions Expert about your overall profile and plans. Those Experts should be able to answer your Admissions questions and help define the specific areas of your profile that could use some improvement. There's a Forum full of those Experts here:

Business Schools know that fantastic applicants can show up at any time (even during Round 3), so you have to be careful about assuming that "only" people with really high GMAT Scores get accepted during the later application Rounds. With highly-competitive Schools, beyond needing a competitive GMAT Score, you also need a strong OVERALL profile and you need to properly 'market yourself' to each individual School that you apply to. Thus, you will have to consider more than just your eventual GMAT Score when making your application decisions.
