Admitted from both schools.
I am a company sponsor candidate, so I have to return to my homeland. No need to consider where I want work after MBA.
So the rest is the student experience, classmates, internship opportunities.

Really hesitate to choose. Both are great schools

Hi pakasaip

Really interesting question.

You have rather unique situation, since you are going back home to Thailand anyways, which makes comparison of schools and programs even more interesting.

Based on thinking of GMAT club members and school applicants Tepper CMU is ranked better than HEC Paris, Tepper is 21. and HEC is 29.

Financial Times has different opinion :) in their Global MBA Ranking 2018, HEC comes in 21. place Tepper in 40. but I would take that with take that with a grain of salt, since traditionally FT and Economist are biased toward Euro/UK schools.

To prove point, pay attention to this in same FT rankings, Alumni recommend rank placed Tepper on 21. place above HEC on 22. Alumni recommend rank is single most valuable tool or insight you can get to compare schools since it answers question how well did school served the ones who attend it in their goals and how was their experience in terms of quality.

You can find more information below where I have highlighted important differences between the two:

HEC Alumni career progress:
Salary today (US$) 133,932
Weighted salary (US$) 135,858
Salary percentage increase 105
Value for money rank 36
Career progress rank 44
Aims achieved (%) 86
Careers service rank 89
Employed at three months (%) 93 (91)
Alumni recommend rank 22

TEPPER CMU Alumni career progress
Salary today (US$) 143,715
Weighted salary (US$) 143,151

Salary percentage increase 108
Value for money rank 88
Career progress rank 76
Aims achieved (%) 87
Careers service rank 11
Employed at three months (%) 89 (99)
Alumni recommend rank 21

HEC Paris Diversity
Female faculty (%) 19
Female students (%) 29
Women on board (%) 13
International faculty (%) 72
International students (%) 93

International board (%) 67
International mobility rank 3
International course experience rank 20

TEPPER CMU Diversity
Female faculty (%) 23
Female students (%) 27
Women on board (%) 15
International faculty (%) 41
International students (%) 33
International board (%) 5
International mobility rank 67
International course experience rank 56

No surprise that The Economist placed also HEC before Tepper, HEC is 15. on the list and Tepper is 30. on 2017.Full time MBA ranking. Here is how they compare according to The Economist tool :

HEC School of Management Paris VS. Carnegie Mellon University
Overall rank 15 30
Regional rank 1 21
Open new career opportunities 62 47
Diversity of recruiters 11 >100
Percentage in work three months after graduation 69 68
Student assessment of career service >100 11
Personal development and educational experience 34 49
Faculty quality 70 43
Student quality 34 47
Student diversity 36 82
Education experience 41 26
Increase in salary 1 8
Percentage increase on pre-MBA salary 5 17
Post-MBA salary 12 23
Potential to network 1 71
Breadth of alumni network 6 88
Internationalism of alumni 4 65
Student rating of alumni effectiveness 55 35

Its worth notice that in Forbes rankings of The Most Satisfied B-School Graduates comes in 5. place, for instance above Kellogg, Yale, Tuck, UCLA, etc.

One thing thing might interest you particularly is MBA specialty rankings. TEPPER CMU MBA ranks :

#2 in Production/Operations Management
according to U.S. News and World Report (2019)

#3 Top MBA Programs for ROI, U.S.
QS TopMBA (2018)

#5 Manufacturing/Logistics
Financial Times (2017)

#6 Entrepreneurship, U.S.
Financial Times (2017)

#8 Students Surveyed
Bloomberg Businessweek (2017)

#9 Supply Chain/Logistics
U.S. News and World Report (2019)

I can see from your profile that were inclined more toward US schools, for instance Kellogg, Ross, Haas, Duke, Anderson, and that HEC was (possibly) the only European school on your list.

I can see that Tepper Full-Time MBA is 21 months program with Summer internship versus 16 month HEC MBA program, that also should be considered.

If you still need further analysis, here you will find very detailed profile of both schools:

Hope all this will help you to decide what is most suitable for you personally !

No need to think of getting a job after your MBA, is an amazing plus! And congrats!

HEC is a powerhouse in Europe, not much for its MBA but for its big sister reputation. Not intending to do a quality/level comparison, but think of Yale/Yale SOM.

I'd go to HEC, enjoy an amazing time traveling around Europe, and if you wanted to have a US experience, just make an exchange, HEC has a lot of exchange programs with top universities, + you won't be stuck in Pittsburgh.

Have a good time!

It is a huge relief not to be stuck searching for a job after graduation - congrats!
P.S. Since you will be in Thailand - which school has a stronger name recognition for a potential employer? Would they know one of these?
