Hello - I am new to the GMATClub, but have found it super helpful this past week as I prepare for the GMAT.
I had some questions re: changing test centers. I am currently scheduled to take the test on April 2 at a center that is about 30 min from my current location. The closest test center is in DC, but does not currently have any open spots. Ideally, I would love to be scheduled at the DC test center on April 2 (Unfortunately, I do not have much flexibility with that date).
1. I know that there would be a $50 fee for rescheduling 7 days prior to the date. Does the GMAC website update test center information if students cancel or reschedule their tests allowing me to take the newly open spot?
2. Do test centers have waiting lists for these situations?
3. And from your experiences - how often to do people reschedule/cancel? And if they do, does it usually happen closer to 7 days prior to the test date?

In answer to your questions:
1) Yes, the 'appointment' program is updated when 'slots' become available, so you might find it useful to check back on a regular basis.
2) Although there might be some exceptions, the individual centers do NOT do any of the scheduling themselves, so there wouldn't be any 'local waiting list' to put your name on.
3) I don't think that GMAC has published the type of cancellation/reschedule data that you're looking for - but even if it was available, that data wouldn't really mean anything in your situation. Either a spot will open up or it won't (past appointments from other Test Takers wouldn't impact whatever's going on this coming April 2nd).
A 30-minute travel time to a testing location isn't bad. How much much closer is the DC Testing Center to you?

Hi asmisp,
I would advice you to be mentally prepared for the travel. You might or might not get a slot at the DC centre. So it would be better if you do not pin your hopes on it.
The GMAC website is updated regularly as and when the tests are rescheduled/cancelled by the students.
