That the current presidential candidates lack [#permalink]

That the current presidential candidates lack the wide support enjoyed by some of the earlier nominees proves that the forces of factionalism are not limited to playing a role only in states.

Error Analysis :
Here, its a 3:2 split. For Lack vs Lacks, "lack (PLURAL FORM)" is obviously correct as it is a VERB FORM for the current presidential candidates. Also, if we read closely, we can see that "proves" is the correct verb form for the entire phrase -- "That the current presidential candidates lack the wide support enjoyed by some of the earlier nominees" and thus, is correct. So the sentence is correct as it is. Remaining choices have one of these 2 errors.

(A) lack the wide support enjoyed by some of the earlier nominees proves
CORRECT.

(B) lacks the wide support enjoyed by some of the earlier nominees prove

(C) lack the wide support that some of the earlier nominees enjoyed prove

(D) lacks the wide support enjoyed by some of the earlier nominees proves

(E) lack the wide support enjoyed by some of the earlier nominees prove
