A) Military Strategies can be used in the world of marketing for brand promotion.

Hello Harley.

I do not see much confusion about the answer, Can you guess the reason why people are falling for B and D.

Hello dav90

I will be honest I can not get logic of this question too. The argument says
"A new brand-promotion firm has decided to base its financial strategies on a renowned military strategist"
And correct answer is "Military Strategies can be used in the world of marketing for brand promotion."

I can not understand how author of the argument make inference that "financial strategies" are equal to "brand promotion"

OE from Economist:

Viewed schematically, the argument runs as follows:

Premise: Military strategy is scientific.
Conclusion: A specific military strategist's strategies can be used for brand-promoting purposes.

You are requested to find an assumption that connects between the premise and the conclusion:
Premise + Assumption = Conclusion.

A) If military strategy is scientific (premise) and military strategies can be used, or applied, to promote products (assumption), then the firm's decision (conclusion) to base its financial strategies on a military strategist makes sense.
Correct

B) This answer choice goes way beyond what is needed to reach the conclusion by expanding the applicability of military strategies to all fields of life, while the argument focuses only on marketing.
Incorrect

C) This answer choice focuses on a minor, distracting detail in the argument - the brochure - and fails to connect the premise with the conclusion.
Incorrect

D) This answer choice goes beyond what is needed to reach the conclusion that a specific military strategies can be used for brand-promoting purposes. Military strategy and financial strategy don't have to be identical for this purpose; they differ in their goals, their means, etc.
Incorrect

E) The argument relies on the implementation of military strategies in the world of brand promotion, not on the abilities of military strategists in the world of brand promotion.
Incorrect

A is correct because it says that military strategies can be used by the firm.

Argument talks about strategist and answer choice A says about strategies. Aren't they both are entirely different?

I think assumption should be based on strategist like military strategist are not good in marketing or financial strategies

Can some one please help me how logically A is correct and not E.

Author tells us that the company has decided to use a military man for its brand promotion. It means it is allowed to use military personal for the same. So, what if it is not allowed, the company cannot use him. So, A is the BEST answer as when negated it breaks the conclusion apart.

Coming back to E, "Military strategists are also adept at marketing." : we are not sure whether they are adept at marketing or not. May be its just that he is a military person could help in expanding the brand. hence, when negated it doesn't have any impact on the conclusion. So, its not correct. Also, Company has decided to use him just because of the first sentence of the argument not because of his adeptness.

The argument says that the company has published it in the on-line brochure that they are going to use military strategist. No where in the argument we are mentioned that this is the BEST way to do that. May be there could be another ways than the online brochure to publish it. This publishing thing is mentioned just to tell us that the company has mentioned its decision there. So, C is incorrect.

The art of waging war has reached a high level of detail throughout the ages and is viewed today as a form of science. A new brand-promotion firm has decided to base its financial strategies on a renowned military strategist, as published in an on-line brochure sent to prospective investors.

The argument talks about "brand promotion firm" and the strategies the firm undertakes.

Option A:
Military Strategies can be used in the world of marketing for brand promotion.

Only option A joins the link between the firms strategies and Brand promotion. So the assumption.

The premise talks about "financial strategies" only.Option A talks about "marketing for brand promotion" and is very specific. How can it be the OA ?

I am not happy with the explanation. The question says Brand promotion firm ....its financial strategies..... No where in the question, it is mentioned that this is a marketing/branding strategy for the client. It may be the branding firm's own financial strategy. I don't agree with the OA bec the conclusion cannot be deduced from the given statement.

Hi,

This question talks about the 'financial strategy' of a brand promotion firm - now this could very well be the firm's financial strategy.
The answer choice talks about brand promotion strategy. How does the assumption link to the argument here.
Moreover, they have told this to potential investors thereby increasing the likelihood that they are talking about their own stratey rather than something they would apply on the clients they get. I'm not sure i'm able to see the connection. Would highly appreciate if you pointed out the flaw in my reasoning.

Appreciate the help
