Could you please explain why it 'dances' instead of 'dancing'?

Here we want to say that the women who are engaged in activities like sewing, knitting & dancing.

buan15 well I will try to help , In my opinion B changes the intended meaning , the underlined sentence depicts different actions painted by the artist , first there is the problem with meaning "women sewing knitting and dancing " so this scene if drawn by the artist , it would depict some women dancing , others knitting , and some dancing. It could also mean that in the piece of art , women are actually dancing knitting and sewing (strange but still). Don't also forget that dancing isn't depicted alone by the artist if we choose B.

But if you check the sentence A , the intended meaning by the author was in the fact that "dancing" (dances is the correct usage that's why the answer is D because of parallelism ) is an action also shown in the heritage center , in GMAT we need to keep the intended meaning of the author.

Hope it helps , kudos if it does !!!

What are being depicted in the paintings ? Lets see:

1. folk cultures,
2. scenes of everyday occupations,
3. religious and astrological symbols,
4. women sewing and knitting, and
5. dances.

Only D conveys this correctly.?

Thanks. I got it after going through the question in detail.
Basically option B would have been correct if the position of AND were before "women". Then it would have maintained the parallelism properly. However that is not in any of the options.
In option D this error is corrected, making it a correct choice.
