The average life expectancy for the US population as a whole is 73.9 years, but children born in Hawaii will live an average age of 77 years, and those born in Louisiana, 71.7 years. If a newly wed couple from Louisiana were to begin their family in Hawaii, therefore, their children would be expected to live longer than would be the if the family remained in Louisiana.

Which of the following, if true, would most seriously weaken the conclusion drawn in the passage?

(A) Insurance company statisticians do not believe that moving to Hawaii will significantly lengthen the average Louisianan's life.

(B) The governor of Louisiana has falsely alleged that statistics for his state are inaccurate.

(C) The longevity ascribed to Hawaii's current population is attributable mostly to genetically determined factors.

(D) Thirty percent of all Louisianans can expect to live longer than 77 years.

(E) Most of the Hawaiian Islands have levels of air population well below the national average for the US.

The main implicit idea is that life expectancy is based on two factors, environmental and genetical.

The text informs us that Hawaii has longer life expectancy than all the others, however, we don't know if its all about genetics or the environment.

The conclusion drawn is that since they live longer there, so will I if I move there (hence the environmental factor)

C) Cleary tells us that its mostly about genetics so there's no point in moving there. Sufficient

A) Their opinion is irrelevant
B) Irrelevant
D) Irrelevant
E) Supports the argument for moving, not weakens.

About the population, the questions is whether the newly wed couple's children would live longer if they moved. Since they are moving to Hawaii it's still a question about environemtal factors or genes, they don't get Hawaii-genes in one generation.

For the record, you don't have to questions OG-questions, they are correct.

If you find the choices given convincing, then please explain why is the OA is correct.

Precicely, my doubt is that, as OA says, "Hawwai's current popilation", the genes affects longivity of the CURRENT poppulation, not necessarily the future population. So I would like to know,is the OA structurally correct?

Its one of OG question.


Since its mentioned that the average age in Hawaii is more than that of Louisiana and that genetically determined factors are the reason for higher average age in Hawaii, a couple from Louisiana cannot expect their children to live longer as their genetic factors does not support a higher average life.

Any factors which breaks the relationship between the resident location and longevity will be an answer.

A Insurance company statisticians do not belive that moving to Hawaii will significantly lengthen the average Louisianan's life
Insurance company's belief does not affect the conclusion.

B The governor of Louisiana has falsely alleged that statistics for his state are inaccurate.
Same as A.

Correct. same logic with the prethink.

No Impact of statisticians belief on our belief w.r.t to the conclusion

Can we interpret it as, since it removes the possibility of statistics being inaccurate for Louisiana, hence it Strengthens the overall argument

Even with this, average life Expectancy in Louisiana could still be 71.7, hence no impact?

NO impact since
1. Most of Hawaiian Islands
2. Comparison b/w Air Pollution levels of Louisiana and USA

Comparison b/w Air Pollution levels of Louisiana and Hawaii would have helped us infer that LE rates are changing because of Environmental conditions and not genetic, hence would have Strengthened the argument.
