Official Explanation

1. There are exactly_______________individual contributors on the project team, and the individual contributor who directs project-related questions to the greatest number of other workers is________________.

First Blank

The passage accompanying the diagram states that an arrow directed from one worker’s circle to another worker’s circle indicates that the first worker directs project related questions to the second worker. The passage goes on to describe an individual contributor as a worker to whom no other worker directs project-related questions. From these two claims together it can be ascertained that individual contributors are the workers who are represented by circles in the diagram that have no arrows directed to them from any other worker’s circle. In the diagram, there are exactly three circles that have no arrows directed to them from any other circle (A, G, and H). All of the other circles depicted in the diagram have one or more arrows directed to them from another worker’s circle. Therefore, there are exactly three individual contributors on the project team.

The correct answer is 3.

Second Blank

As noted in the discussion above, an individual contributor is a worker to whom no other worker directs project-related questions, of which there are exactly three represented in the diagram (A, G, and H). Of those three workers, the one who directs project-related questions to the greatest number of other workers is G. Worker G directs project-related questions to three workers, Worker D, Worker E, and Worker F. Therefore, Worker G is the individual contributor who directs project-related questions to the greatest number of other workers. And although Worker D also directs project-related questions to three other workers (B, C, and F), other workers also direct project-related questions to Worker D which, according to the information provided in the passage, makes Worker D a coordinator, rather than an individual contributor.

The correct answer is G.
