Hello sajjad1995 can you pl share the OE of Question 2 & 3?
TIA

Official Explanation

3. The author mentions "the prejudice of education" (Highlighted) most probably in order to

Difficulty Level: 700

Explanation

Analyze the question stem

This is a Logic question, asking why the author uses a particular phrase.

Research

The phrase appears in the third paragraph and is a quote from Castagnary, who is one scholar who holds a belief that Nochlin criticizes. The discussion
concerns Nochlin's belief that an understanding of the Realist period is not complex enough if it fails to consider the influence of broader social changes on
art.

Make a prediction

The phrase is used to directly illustrate an aspect of eighteenth-century art that Castagnary and others feel Realists rejected, and Castagnary's view is raised to show that it is incorrect. The purpose, thus, is to set the stage for a refutation of other scholars' ideas about Realism.

Evaluate the answer choices

The third paragraph in the passage is all about correcting what Nochlin sees as an overly simplistic explanation for the development of realism. (A) matches this and is the correct answer.

While the phrase is directly related to Castagnary's explanation of the origins of Realism, the author's purpose is not to describe his beliefs but to show how
Nochlin refutes them. (B) is incorrect.

(C) is a 180, or opposite, choice. This is what Castagnary believes, but this is a viewpoint that Nochin rejects, and explaining Nochin's ideas is the goal of the author.

While the training of 18th-century artists is described in the previous paragraph as very limiting, the author's goal is not to criticize this training. Rather the author's focus is on the Realist movement and specifically Courbet. Thus, while Castagnary's purpose in writing about "the prejudice of education" may have been to criticize earlier artists' academic training, this is not the authors purpose in quoting Castagnary. Eliminate (D).

(E) is not supported by the passage at all.

TAKEAWAY: Watch out for answer choices that are correct in the passage, but do not actually answer the question!
