The least value of \(x^2 + 5xy + 4y^2\) given x + y = 2 and x, y are non negative, is:

A. 0
B. 2
C. 3
D. 4
E. 6

another way to solve this

\(x^2 + 5xy + 4y^2\) factor this => \(x^2 + 4xy + xy + 4y^2\) => (x+y)(x+4y). => (x+y)(x+y+3y)

given that x+y = 2
substitute in the simplified equation

2 * (2 + 3y) => 4 + 6y

as y is non negative minimum should be 0. so ans = 4
