The line graph tracks the gross production of natural gas in billions of cubic feet (where 1 billion = 1,000,000,000) in four countries over a period of five years.
Select from each of the drop-down menus the option that creates the most accurate statement based on the information provided.
(1) In 2007, the percent growth in gas production over the 2004 level in Mexico was _____that in Venezuela.
So we have to take the % growth separately for both Mexico and Venezuela and then compare the two.
a. Mexico: 1500 approx to 2000, so 500 over 1500, that is 33.33%.
b. Venezuela: 2000 approx to 2500, so 500 over 2000, that is 25%.
Clearly,
greater than is the answer
(2) The average (arithmetic mean) amount of increase in natural-gas production from 2004 to 2008 was closest to billion cubic feet.
Add all in 2004 and then in 2008, find the difference and divide by 4.
But I would be more comfortable in findin the difference in each.
a. Mexico: 1500 approx to 1800, so 300
b. Venezuela: 2000 approx to 2500, so 500
c. Brazil: 600 to 750, so 150.
d. T and T: 1050 to 1500, so 450
Add all, so 300+500+150+450 or 1400, so average will be 1400/4 or
350.
