Hello Guys,

I am still not clear and would appreciate any valuable feedback/ information from the R2 applicants -
- Do we need to send the GMAT score formally to LBS before R2 or a self reported is sufficient ?
- Can recos be submitted upto 1 week after R2 deadline, like it was allowed in R1 or was that option only for R1 and R2 recos must also reach by 6th Jan.

Thanks,

dropsofjupiter,

I'm not a Stage 2 applicant, but I feel I can answer your questions:

1) The application form implies quite clearly that self-reported scores are sufficient at the time of application. Indeed, I believe the form asks you to indicate the date you either took the test, or plan to take it. They then require you to report the official score directly to the programme through GMAC. As an anecdote, I took my GMAT test the day before I submitted my application, and self-reported the scores on the application form at the time of submission.

2) There is absolutely no indication that recommendations can submitted a week after the Stage 2 deadline. Stage 1 was an obvious exception for many reasons: the online application form (including the provision to electronically solicit references from referees) was only made available too close to the deadline; the form went live on the evening of September 14th, and the Stage 1 deadline was October 7th. Further, final deadlines for all stages of the programme were confirmed in the middle of September. Up till that point, the School had communicated that deadlines were expected to be more or less the same as the previous year's (October 14th), and so moving up the final Stage 1 deadline by a week from the previous year's, in addition to the fact that the electronic components of the application were made available rather late, certain flexibility was extended to referees. Such circumstances clearly do not apply in Stage 2.

Suggestion: In matters you deem cricitical to the completion of your application, it might be better to reach out directly to the Admissions Committee or the Information Office. The Stage 2 deadline is mere days away, and members of this thread are not obligated to be sensitive to your time constraints whereas Admissions Committee and Information Office staff are positioned precisely for these sorts of last minute questions. Besides, I have only told you what I know based on my experiences. There could very well have been a recent change yet to be broadly communicated, in which case, the staff of the Information Office and the Admissions Committe would be the best people to reach out to in emergencies like this.

Thanks friends for your responses...I guess by not sending score at the time of GMAT, I have already done a mistake ( considering the fact that I have taken GMAT recently) becasue till last day before GMAT I was in dilemma about the which schools to send score to....Besides I was not able to attend any event or visit LBS campus.

So, I guess there are chances that adcom might not consider me serious towards LBS, even though eventually I am only applying only to 3 schools this year (including LBS)!!

Hey,
I'm applying in R2 and running around to get it all together. My referees are all travelling and aren't reachable for me to remind them. I believe we have a additional weeks time from Jan 6 to submit the two references.

From the LBS MBA blog:
Quote:
Q. My references / transcripts have been delayed and will not arrive until after the deadline. Will you still accept my application in this stage?

If you submit your application by the Stage 2 deadline, we will accept supplementary materials that arrive during the week following this deadline. If an item is delayed by more than 1 week your application may be moved into the following Stage so that it can be reviewed with using the full information, but you will be contacted beforehand if this is the case. If you do not hear from the Admissions team you should assume that your application is proceeding in Stage 2.

That's definitely a slight relief.

Hi I need help with this question-

Do you feel that your academic performance so far gives an accurate indication of your potential for success at London Business School? If so, why? If not, why not?

How am I supposed to answer this question. Should I say that I took many difficult courses that have prepared me to succeed at LBS. Or should I answer as the question is asked as in "Yes I believe my academic performance gives an accurate indication." One more point if my GPA is 3.5 should I say that it is an accurate indication of my potential(although I know that I could have done much better.)

Please answer. Thanks in advance.

DoctorManhattan I was quoting information from the MBA Exchange handbook of 2010 which I had read a few months ago on the portal. But that document has since been taken down. So scrap everything I have said so far because this information is likely to change.

Will keep you posted if I find out anything.

bsd_lover,

You imply that rounds exist in which to apply to Exchange programmes. If it's not too much trouble, could you briefly outline how that process works?

Thanks!

Thanks DoctorManhattan. I will replace LBS, and try to get the fat out from other places ('fat-reduction' is difficult to do while maintaining the weight  )

Just to put an alternative spin on things - I used LBS all over the place. I also know of at least two more folks who used LBS. I just introduced the very first mention of London Business School , added an (LBS) after it and then used LBS consistently throughout the application. I do not thing the ad-com mind too much. They recognize that their word limits are tight and this convention doesn't mean any disrespect, it just helps with the word count. One place I do NOT use LBS is on my CV, where I use the full London Business School title.

Quite right! I honestly can't picture David Simpson or Stephen Chadwick saying, "You know what, this is a spectacular application. I mean look at the marvellous professional and personal profile this candidate's got. He'd/She'd have been a terrific fit for the programme. Too bad he/she used the "LBS" abbreviation all over the place, now we're going to have to stick 'em on the Wait-list...serves 'em right!"

Those who make the distinction are most likely splitting hairs that have no positive (or negative) impact on the quality of the overall application. However, as a general rule of abbreviating, you should always, as I believe bsd_lover mentioned, make sure the first reference is spelled out in its entirety, that the acronym is included in brackets immediately following the first spelled out reference, and then you may begin to use the abbreviation throughout the document.

 with a GMAT on lower end and no red-cross mission to support my app, i guess I'll play it safe...
No news from my referee, I hope he did not have a shark attack while swimming in the ocean! These last minute delays gets on the nerves...

I'll be using self reported GMAT scores too (it has been 5 days and I didn't receive the AWA scores yet! the first time, it had come within 4 days... might be due to the new year holidays). 3 more days to the R2 app. deadline!! Good luck to comrades going in :)

I just checked my essays as well and I have used LBS everywhere. I don't think that would effect how you will be evaluated.

bsd_lover/prashok, When do we get a letter from the school which states we have enrolled in the programme with a starting date. Is it after we pay commitment fee or after reservation fee.

Does LBS have a kroll verification/background check ? When and how long does it take. Does that also influence when we get the enrolment letter.

The letter is needed for most loans/housing applications and external scholarships and I am a little worried it might be late. I have mailed the admissions contacts, havent got a reply though.

For visas, I received an e-letter and requested a physical letter a few weeks after paying the Commitment Fee. I didn't need letters for loans (the Financial Aid Office works directly with the American government programs), though I would imagine it is the same process and timeline as for immigration.

Don't remember a Kroll verification or any other official background checks, I think LBS conducts checks on its own (through your referees, etc.).

I have gone through the entire LBS thread today and really thankful for all the info. I am
-Indian/Female/GMAT 660/Engineer, 27 years old.
-4 years of WE in IT industry and
-Worked in UK at client location for almost 2 years and now live in France and learning French language here.
-I am not employed currently as i had to quit my job in June this year to join my husband here in France.

I would be grateful if bsd or prashok or any others can help me with a profile evaluation for LBS. I have a good experience of leading small teams and working in a multi-cultural environment. Even right now, all my classmates are from different countries. I have mostly been passionate about education so my few extra curricular activities have been only in that area.

Thanks for your advice.

Hi jsonali -- it's a bit tougher to evaluate the IT/Indian demographic, given its competitiveness. From what we know of the current students with the same background/nationality, they all had significant international experience, so that is a plus on your profile. Some of them were entrepreneurs as well.

The GMAT score could be an issue, given our class average (and if you are below the mean, LBS will want to see something else in your profile, such as nontraditional work experience). So I would try to work on that.

I would spend significant time on your essays as well, as this will be the opportunity to differentiate yourself against the many other applicants with similar backgrounds. The gap in your work experience at the moment could also raise questions, but if you are studying French, you should also make sure to write about this.

Thanks prashok for your thoughts. I am aware that I belong to an over-subscribed applicant pool and hence the need to consult current students. I spent the last month working on my essays because LBS is the only school in Europe which is the best 'fit' for me. I think I have decent recos as well though they will come only at the end. Applying in R2 and getting nervous.

About the gap in work experience, well it was a personal decision and not related to the current crisis and considering that i live in South of France in an academic city(Montpellier), its impossible for me to get a job here hence I'm learning french 16hrs/week. I hope I can make this sound convincing and hopefully give it a positive spin as i have learnt more about the different countries and cultures here than i learnt while working in UK.

I had another question, do you think mentioning the interest in working for SA Exec Committee is right in the essays on clubs and community events?
