The new Moulant Diet requires adherents to limit their daily intake of calories from fats, proteins, and carbohydrates so as to maintain a ratio of 3 : 2 : 5, respectively. If 1 gram of fat contains 9 calories, 1 gram of protein contains 4 calories, and 1 gram of carbohydrates contains 4 calories, did Daya follow the Moulant Diet plan on Tuesday?

(1) Daya consumed 1,100 calories from fat, proteins, and carbohydrates on Tuesday.
(2) At dinner, and breakfast on Tuesday, Daya ate meals that contained 60 grams of fats, 40 grams of proteins, and 100 grams of carbohydrates.

(1) total of 1100 cal. consumed.
but we dont know the ratio of calories followed....insuff...

(2) consumed the total calories in for two times...
Again insufficient to say weather ratio was maintained in both halves

Combining both
3x+2x+5x=1100
x=110
so 3x=330
but 330 in no way multiple of 9 so the chart must not be follwed.

My take E

For combined statements

consumed - 60 grams of fats, 40 grams of proteins, and 100 grams of carbohydrates

It is given in statement 1 gram of fat contains 9 calories, 1 gram of protein contains 4 calories, and 1 gram of carbohydrates contains 4 calories.

so calories consumed - 60 X 9 : 40 X 4 : 100 X 4.

after simplifying calories consumed - 27:8:20
27x+8x+20x = 1100
x = 20
Therefore calories consumed in ratio of - 27x20 : 8x20 : 20x20

now we have to split the total calorie intake in 2 meals which can be or cannot be in ratio of 3 : 2 : 5, which she needs to maintain for mountain diet plan.
case1 - ratio maintained
meal1 - 27x10 : 8x10 : 20x10 meal2 - 27x10 : 8x10 : 20x10

case2 - ratio not maintained
meal1 - 27 x 2 : 8x10 : 20x10 meal2 - 27x18 : 8x10 : 20x10

So E is correct choice.

Can you post a link to the OE?

2nd statement is completely out of scope, since we do not know how many meals are being consumed by Daya in a day.
Statement 1 is insufficient, on it own. I'd go with E.

I cannot come to a conclusion by combining the two statements. If I'm missing out on something, please help.

she only has to follow the diet over the course of the entire day, not necessarily every meal. A is wrong because there are many possible ratios, B is wrong because there may have been more meals. But B equals 1,100 calories so using both we know that that is all she ate so regardless of what the ratio actually is we can solve for it once we have both pieces of info so the answer is c.

if she is eating 60gm of fat @ 9cal/gm =540 cal. cosumed
40 gm protien @ 4cal/gm =160 cal. consumed
&& 100gm carbohydrate @ 4cal/gm = 400 calories consumed

so total calories is = 540+160+400 =1100cal.
but we need (1) to know whether she has consumed any more diet further for the day or not....
since she consumed only 1100 cal. we know the diet in the stem is only she has taken
which is definitely not followed

Thus Ans C
