It is a good style to state what she tried to convince in a relative clause started with the connector 'that' As per that reckoning, only B fits the bill.
When 'rather than' is present, it is unidiomatic to use "instead of" as per GMAT ethos. Therefore, C is out. 'To prevent' and 'continuing' is unparallel in A, C, and E. 'For the joining of' is unidiomatic in D, in the light of the relative clause 'that they should join forces'
B is the definitive answer.
