Hello. Please explain the reason to eliminate answer choice D. I am not convinced with the OE

What is the OA for the above mentioned question ?

According to my analysis the answer is E

D can be eliminated becoz we are not sure if the compromise will work out or not


C is my take

IMO the answer should be E because,

The director at the Mayor's office for the people with disabilities suggests that "each and every unit must be big enough for handicapped" and the Paris based company declines the job if " all the toilets are to be made accessible for handicapped people". Even though the company is ready to make some toilets accessible the directors requires all of them to be accessible to handicapped. Therefore, unless the director changes his/her mind, its unlikely the toilets are built.

Reason behind rejecting C?


I think E wont b correct becoz its written That , That company wont install toilet until the Director change the mind, But in E its written UNLIKELY , which means maybe....So i prefer C but let me know why to reject C

I agree with your point. We cannot assume anything from ourselves.

But telling that wheelchair problem is most likely to doom the plan IS incorrect.

May be it is the decision of the director and the Paris company that is most likely to doom the plan.

So, making one thing the biggest culprit is not the right decision. Hence, C cannot be the answer.

We are already told that Director is saying I need every unit very big and the Paris company is saying if we have all units big, we are not going to help you guys.

So, we can very well infer that if I sticks to his/her plan, the other is going to create a problem.

Does that make sense?

Kindly clarify the difference between operate and install. In the question it is mentioned that Paris based company has operated but in choices it is talking about installing. How can we assume that operating means the company has installed??

The statement is saying Paris Based company has been operating in many countries. But when asked to start doing so in Boston, they said No Man, we won't unless you satisfy what we need.

And this is obvious that before operating something in a country, they need to install it. Hence, donot get confused with such words.

Don't you think the wording could have been much clear, because their can be a case like government install the toilets but outsource it's operations.

E is only true if the City is likely to follow the recommendations of its Disabilities Office Director, but the question doesn't tell us anything about how important the Director's insistences are. If the City is likely to ignore those insistences, E is not true. So E is only a good answer if you make an assumption. But you're never allowed to make assumptions in a "must be true" question, because if you were allowed to do that, you could justify almost any answer.

E would be a perfectly fine answer if the stem said that, by City law, the kiosks need to be wheelchair accessible, and that the City is likely to follow its laws. But the stem doesn't state any facts about the city's laws; it only tells us what the Director insists is true.

A point to consider here is that it is not just the position of the Mayor's office, but the 'CITY LAW', which makes it compulsory of all the toilets to be accessible by the handicap people. So even if Mayor's office does changes its position, the 'CITY LAW' still forbids this construction.

Therefore, as per the 'CITY LAW', if the toilets do get created, they have to be big enough to accommodate the wheelchair, implying that if toilets are built in the city, they would be built over the protests of the director of the City Arts Commission. So the answer should be B.

As per the passage:

b) if all the kiosks are that large, the City Arts Commission is unlikely to approve their placement on the streets because they would be too cumbersome and unattractive
c) Paris-based company for years has said that it is unwilling to do the job in Boston if all the toilets have to be made accessible to the handicapped

Hence, if all the above statements are true then there is no possibility for the creation of a public toilet.

The unlikely word brings assumption into play, rather the answer choice should be clear and should be inferred from the passage.

If I understand correctly, the answer is C.
