The ratio of John's income and expenditure is 8: 5 and the ratio of Mugabe's income and expenditure is 3:2. If Mugabe's income is half of that of John's, what is the ratio of savings of John and Mugabe?

(A) 9: 4
(B) 4: 15
(C) 3.: 11
(D) 2:7
(E) 1:2

See John's income and expenditure is 8: 5 ie. 1.6 times
Mugabe's income and expenditure is 3:2. ie. 1.5 times

But John's income is double the Mugabe's
Clearly ,Mugabe's expenditure more than John's ,so saving of John's will be more than Mugabe's

Only In option A , John's ratio is more than Mugabe's

Answer A

Deconstructing the Question

Savings = income − expenditure.

John: income : expenditure = 8 : 5
Let income = \(8x\), expenditure = \(5x\)
Savings = \(3x\)

Mugabe's income is half of John's:
\(4x\)

His ratio is 3 : 2.

Step-by-step

If \(3\) parts = \(4x\), then 1 part = \(4x/3\)

Expenditure:
\(2 \cdot 4x/3 = 8x/3\)

Savings:
\(4x - 8x/3 = 4x/3\)

Ratio of savings:
\(3x : 4x/3\)

Multiply both by 3:
\(9 : 4\)

Answer: A (9 : 4)

Consider 80 bucks as John income, and 40 as M income as it is 1/2, now plug in the numbers for Expense as well basis the factors. You get 50:24 as the savings ratio which mirrors only 9:4, 1:2 comes close but remember we are asked John to M. Hence A is the only true answer.
