Since there are more sophomores than freshmen on the team, then the sophomores compose more than 50% of the team, thus of all of them quit, the team would have fewer than half the players it current has.

Answer: D.

D. If all the sophomores were to quit the team, the team would have fewer than half the players it current has.
E. If all the freshmen and the sophomores were to quit the team, the team would still have players.

Solution:

Let the team consist of 100 members (We can take a smart number in this case). Since there are no other team members the worst case for sophomores can be 51 (>49 freshmen).

A. Can or cannot be true
B. Can or cannot be true
C. if freshmen quit they are already less than half so not possible
D. If sophomores quit they are more than half so remaining team would be less than 50%
E. Already stated that team consists entirely of team consists entirely of freshmen and sophomores

Since there are more sophomores than freshers and the entire team has only sophomores & freshers, removing sophomores will reduce the team size by more than half.
