The sloth, which is a South American mammal related to armadillos and anteaters, live in tropical forests where they travel through the trees upside down.
striked out part is a modifier modifying sloth .now when you read without modifier ==>THE SLOTH = singular subject ...LIVE = PLURAL VERB.
so this sub-verb agreement error is present.

basis this error we can eliminate A/B/D..so left with C/E.

C) a South American mammal related to the armadillo and the anteater, lives in tropical forests where it travels
CORRECT

E) a South American mammal in relation to the armadillo and the anteater, lives in tropical forests where it travels
in relation to==>this is unidiomatic in this case.hence C

E) a South American mammal in relation to the armadillo and the anteater, lives in tropical forests where it travels

Option C

The sentence has Subject Verb ("sloth" (singular subject) is with plural verb "live" ). and Pronoun ("They" - plural pronoun points to "sloth" - singular noun) error.

Also, once we confirm plural pronoun "they" to singular "it" , the related plural verb "travel" should also be converted to singular "travels"

KAPLAN OFFICIAL EXPLANATION:

C

Every pronoun must CLEARLY and LOGICALLY refer to ONE specific noun, and agree with that noun. You’re talking about the sloth here. That’s singular. To be GMAT-correct, you have to comparethe sloth to the armadillo and the anteater. That knocks out (A) and (B). (D) uses “they.”“They”can’t stand for “sloth.”It can only stand for the plural noun “forests,” which makes no sense. If you were working quickly, you might think it’s OK to substitute “they” for “the sloth.” But GMAT English is picky. If the noun “sloth” is singular, its pronoun must be singular too. (E) is wrong because the phrase “in relation to” is unid- iomatic. Yousay “X is related to Y,” not “X is inrela- tion to Y.”
