1.
Emerald Sky points = 80.8
5 points increase in service (20% weightage)=> 5*0.2= 1point
So total points =81.8 so the emerald sky would be ranked somewhere in the middle.
Hence NO

2.
Terra Austral has 82.2 points and Desert Falcon has 83.8 points.
5 additional points in punctuality and safety combined (both have 40% weightage) = 5*0.4=2 points
So Total new Terra Austral = 84.2 which is >83.8

Let's also check for 4 points=> 4*0.4=1.6 => New Terra Austral = 82.2+1.6 = 83.8 points which is equal to Desert Falcon so Doesn't exceed
So, at least 5 additional points are needed to exceed.
Hence YES

3.
Increasing each of the three category scores of Sahara Line by 10 points = 10*0.4+10*0.4+10*0.2 = 10 points increase
So new Sahara line = 86.4 (It becomes new maximum in total score)
Minimum now is Adriatic Blue with 79.2 points. So, new range = 86.4-79.2=7.2 points
and Old range was = 86.0- 76.4=9.6
The range decreased by= 9.6-7.2 = 2.4
Hence, NO

The table shows selected airlines and their scores on a 100-point scale in three categories: punctuality (on-time performance), safety (audit results), and service (passenger experience). Each category score is an integer between 0 and 100. The total score is calculated as a weighted average, with weights of 40% for punctuality, 40% for safety, and 20% for service

For each of the following statements, select Yes if the statement is true based on the information provided; otherwise select No.

Question 1:

If Emerald Sky had scored 5 points higher in service (with its punctuality and safety unchanged), it would rank second on total score.

The current scores of Emerald Sky in Punctuality, Safety and Service are 82, 76 and 88. And the current total score of Emerald = 80.8.

If the service points is increased by 5 points the score becomes 93 (88+5).

The new score = 40% * (82+76)+20%*(93)

= 63.2 + 18.60

= 81.8. This score is less than 86, 85. So cannot occupy second place. NO.

Question 2:

Keeping service fixed, Terra Austral would need at least 5 additional points in punctuality and safety combined to exceed Desert Falcon’s total.

Desert Falcons total score = 83.8

Current Terra Austral Score = (84,82,79) = 82.2

New score = 40%( 84+82+5) + 20%* (79) = 68.4 + 15.8 = 84.2. This new score of Terra Austral EXCEEDS Desert Falcons score of (83.8).

Hence. YES.

Question 3:

Increasing each of the three category scores of Sahara Line by 10 points would decrease the range of the resulting total scores by more than 2.5 points.

Lets first determine the current range of total score = (86 - 76.4) = 9.6

Current Sahara Line scores are : 77, 74, 80. After increase of 10 points the new Sahara line score is 87, 84, 90 respectively.

The new total score of Sahara line = 40%*(87+84) + 20%*(90) = 68.4 + 18 = 86.4

The new highest score = 86.4 ( Sahara Line), and the new lowest score = 79.2 ( Adriatic Blue).

Thus, the new range = 86.4 - 79.2 = 7.2.

The decrease in range compared to the previous one is 9.6 - 7.2 = 2.4

2.4 is less than 2.5. Hence, NO.
