General merchandise stores saw their e-commerce sales rise as a percentage of their overall sales between 2008 and 2009.
To find the e-commerce sales for general merchandise stores, we look at the e-commerce columns for both 2008 and 2009 and see that the total increased from $165 million to $220 million. During the same period, the total sales columns for 2008 and 2009 show us that overall sales fell from about $597 billion to about $592 billion. Since e-commerce increased while total sales fell, e-commerce must have accounted for a rising percentage of overall sales in this sector.
The statement is True.
