Hi. I have not heard of this concept. And I don’t think I have a lot of interest in exploring it or pursuing a random deck of flashcards found on the Internet…. 😂 intriguing as it sounds for this evening . It does not seem to me sa some thing very valuable and I don’t know what the source is... do establish its usefulness

Who is there anything in particular that led you to these concepts? This seems like a pretty high-end verbal topic that probably requires somebody much smarter than I am. I only have a V 42 🤷‍♂️

Hi bb,

Thank you for your response!
The V-A-N rule is mentioned in Manhattan GMAT SC Strategy Guide (Fifth Edition) Page #211, Chapter 11 (GM/S-V/Parallelism: Extra)

AH! That is great. The extra sections tend to be the beyond typical types of questions so this is if you’re looking for an extra high score.

I’m going to fill in some blanks and assume that the explanation that Manhattan provides did not help either? By the way, Manhattan used to have them table reference of questions from the official guide that match the chapters but I’m guessing not for the extra chapters?

I think it would improve question phrasing if it included this MGMAT reference… 😇

From what I've heard, in GMAT, Verbs are preferred to Adjectives; Adjectives are preferred to Nouns

Here's one preference: The GMAT prefers verbs to adjectives, and adjectives to nouns (V-A-N).

Verb version: X depends on Y.
Adjective version: X is dependent on Y.
Noun version: X has dependence on Y. (This isn't an idiomatic sentence btw)

Adjective version: X is influential.
Noun version: X has influence.

I think it’s going to be hard to grasp without having some decent examples from the official guide and unfortunately I’m not able to allocate anytime into looking for them at the moment 😢

In this comment, I will keep adding all the official questions where we could apply the V-A-N rule:
